Post-cholecystectomy or gallbladder removal surgery
Hi – I had my gallbladder removed 17 years ago and have chronic, sharp back pain behind the port incision. That incision was in my upper left abdominal quadrant; the pain is felt in my back, directly behind the incision. It is thought that I have an adhesion in my upper left quadrant. Is it possible that nerves are trapped and that it causes referred pain in my back? The pain is nauseating and hasn't improved. I have been on anti seizure medication and a pain killer that isn't a percocet-type medication. I am curious if anyone else has persistent pain in their back following gallbladder surgery. If so, how is your pain treated.

Our hospital is so awful I’m ashamed to even say the name. I went to my chiropractor and he got me going. I have to see him once a week. My GI tract was basically paralyzed. I’m a lot better after my chiropractic treatment! I’ve been seeing him since I was 14yrs old
I am a lot better. I went this past week and seen my chiropractor that I’ve been seeing since I was 14yrs old. Basically my GI tract was paralyzed from all the very heavy narcotics they were giving me through my iv before my anesthesia wore off. They was giving me Dilaudid in my Iv and Vicodin by mouth the minute I woke up in recovery and that continued for 5 days
I’ve been on protonix for several years. I’m a lot better after seeing my chiropractor! Basically my GI tract was still sleeping/paralyzed
I went back to my surgeon after I was released from a 4 day hospital stay and the PA informed me nothing was wrong with me. I am doing so much better since I seen my chiropractor that I’ve been seeing since I was 14yrs old. Basically my GI tract was sleeping/ paralyzed from the very heavy narcotics they were giving me around the clock for 5 days straight
I am doing a lot better since I seen my chiropractor! I have been seeing him since I was 14yrs old. I will continue once a week treatments until my GI returns to normal. Basically my GI was paralyzed from the very heavy narcotics they were giving me around the clock for 5 consecutive days

It’s a relief to hear that you got help and feel better.
Dilaudid is very potent- can’t imagine getting it around the clock for 5 days.
Remember- never go there again unless it’s an extreme emergency. Find another hospital to go to.
I have been having pain on my right side after gall bladder surgery too my back going on 3 months... Nauseated in the morning and generally feeling malaise. I have been also treated for renal cell carcinoma in that time frame.. My doctor found my pancreas has been not functioning properly also... I am not producing Amylase and it might be what is causing the pain and illness in my GI tract... My gallbladder was so bad when the surgeon took it out he remarked about it being very diseased and scarred.. It's possible that it may have damaged my pancreas cuz prior to having the gallbladder removed I had several bouts with pancreatitus... I think many of you might be experiencing this and need to have your pancreas checked out... Taking pain meds and other meds are not a proper solution to the condition.. I am still trying to get treated but my Healthcare system is working at a snails pace... I will update if I can if there is a solution to this...

1 ReactionHave your doctor check you pancreas.. mine was damaged from my gallbladder I believe... have them check amylase... I too have had same pain in the same places had every test ct scans etc.. my pancreas isn't producing amylase and when you look it up the same symptoms are involved with the pain I have had since my gallbladder was removed.

1 ReactionYes I have had similar discomfort and very sorry to hear you are in such distress. Mine was taken out first week of January 2023 and I was prescribed creon which I take also with every meal.. I had been suffering from pancreatitis prior to it being taken out now the doctors say I have pancreatic insufficiency. I know there are several complications that can occur with gallbladder surgery involving bile duct blockage or leaking etc. Stones can still form after the surgery or be missed so if you haven’t had imaging done to rule out those issues do so immediately. Also have your doctor check you pancreas and liver out for proper enzyme functions etc. I do hope you get this resolved. I know how much pain a discomfort you are experiencing it’s terrible.
