Buzzing/vibrations in left foot.

Hi all, soon to be 50 year old male, I was diagnosed with T2D in August 2022 with A1c of 12.5. Reduced my A1c by 4.4% points in 3 months to 8.1. In October I developing acute onset of SFN (burning feet, cold feet and hypersensitivity in feet) I was diagnosed with Insulin Neuritis (Treatment Induced Neuropathy) in January by neurologist. This was awful but has since got a lot better as BG normalizes.

As I was reducing my A1c in November, before being diagnosed with TIND, I noticed for about 2 days, a buzz in my left foot. 10-15 seconds of buzz and a few minutes of no buzz. After that stopped in left foot, I got it in right foot the next week. Same symptoms and lasted for 2 days.

Fast forward to this last Sunday, this buzz has started again in left foot but has been 20-25 seconds of buzz and a minute or so of no buzz. Coincidentally, my A1c as of yesterday was 5.5. So dropped A1c 7 points in 7.5 months.

Yesterday, Neurologist conducted a physical exam specifically for MS as I asked her to. She saw no symptoms for MS or reason to order an MRI for MS. She was confident it’s not ALS related.

It feels like a tiny pulse or cell phone vibration. There is no pain with it...it’s just annoying and distracting to sleep. No pins and needles or numbness.

Saw my GP and he also sees no reason for MRI for MS. They both seem to think it’s part of the recovery from the SFN as nerves regenerate and reinnervate.

Has anyone else experienced this buzzing sensation in their feet and does anyone know if it’s diabetes related? If so, how long did it last?

This sounds like neuropathy to me. Consider daily 600-900mg ALA, (Alpha Lipoic Acid). I got feeling back in my feet to a certain degree with that.

Be sure to lotion up your feet before bed and observe them for calluses and any wounds. Do not go barefoot, I use crocs and socks while in the house.

If you have difficulty trimming your toenails, podiatrists will do it for you. Do not go to a nail spa, filthy!

I have been taking the R-ALA and Benfotiamine. I know I have/had some SFN but the buzzing is new. Maybe the nerves are coming back. No doubt I had damage to nerves. What did it feel like when you got feelings back?

Got out of bed and felt the carpet under my feet, the little tufts. Almost fell over it surprised me so much. I sometimes feel just pain instead of nothing - not terrific, but we have a new puppy and now I feel when she bites my big toe - didn't before. Very dangerous. I didn't experience a lot of pain in my neuropathy, I went from nothing to completely numb, to the point where I couldn't feel the tuning fork and little wire my doctor uses. Now I can feel them slightly

That’s great recovery though. Keep bringing that BG down.

Similar situation, A1c reduction from >14% to 6.9% over three or so months.

I did not get an immediate diagnosis of TIND, I wasn't aware it existed, and I've just brought some studies to my doctor's attention and hope to soon, as not only have I absolutely experienced the buzzing you describe, but wild electic bolts of extreme pain rocked my body.

1200mg gabapentin three times daily brought little relief. I had a pudendal nerve block put in, basically in desperation.

I don't know what to do next, or who to talk to.

Did you have extreme pain? What helped? How long does this last?

This thread is from last year….wondering how you all are doing. I’ve been dealing with some numbness, tingling that has been improving lately. I have several diagnosis and symptoms I’ve been dealing with, but since I started mega daily doses of Vitamin B12, prescribed by neurologist, my symptoms are improving. Still, a new symptom popped up yesterday of a buzzing sensation in my left foot? Very strange. Just trying to figure it out. My blood sugar is lower than its been in years, so I’m sure that helps too. And, my smell/taste disorder greatly improved last month.

So, how does the buzzing factor into this?
