"Nap attacs"
Has any one been experiencing something I call "nap attacs"? I get this terrible sleepiness in the daytime, at first up to three time a day, now not quite as offten. There has been no way to get out of these attacs, they don´t pass, except taking a nap. I´ve had to stop the car and sleep. Fallen a sleep in the hot tub at the swimmingpool and on my tiny sofa in my office.. - several times.
I haven´t seen this discribed. It´s not the same as fatigue, it just severe sleepiness.
My son, who also has post-COVID, get something simmilar. He told me it helps him to eat something salty. I didn´t really take him seriously, but yesterday I did and I did get over it! Still don´t dare to belive there is such a simple solution.. But I hope.
Would love to hear if anyone has been experiencing this.

Salt helps since it raises blood pressure and electrolyte levels. I have added more salt to my diet per my docs recommendation. I tend to have BP on the low side to begin with, and I think it has gotten a bit lower post Covid. Someone on this forum recommended coconut milk (unsweetened) . This also has electrolytes in it.
I have a diagnosis of Narcolepsy Type 1 (with cataplexy). The sleepiness does sound a great deal like Narcolepsy but sodium doesn’t affect my daytime sleepiness (nothing does other than a nap.
I do want to share that I had Covid in 2020 and saw a drastic uptake in the number of Cataplexy episodes I have had. I am just getting over Covid and fear this happening again. I have noticed intensification with strobe lights, but so far have been able to breathe through these episodes instead of dropping. I have also experienced stomach pain and IBS sine most recent infection.
Yes! It’s not so bad anymore for me, but in the first months of longcovid (2 years in now) I would get this odd tingling in my head and I felt like I was being pulled down into sleep. I couldn’t stop it. It wasn’t tiredness. Just an unstoppable sleepiness. Very odd. Do you have other neuro issues too?
When I am overdoing daily activity I get the sensation a too small stocking cap is being pulled down my head, my eyes heavy. Have to stop. Get home, if away. Rest....occasionally need to go to sleep briefly. I was always a driver personality. I feel guilty, like I’m slacking, but Mayo taught me my PostCovidSyndrome brain is demanding rest. So I send myself to “time out”.
I understand what you mean regarding immediacy. An urgency that hits out of the blue. It’s like your body made a decision without you thinking about it and it demands sleep now. It gets better and less and less frequent. Hang in there let your body be boss while it’s healing.
I´m doing alot better now. I was so "lucky" to be diagnosed with ADHD, huhu, and the stimmulants totally cures me from the attacs of sleepiness. I want to try LDN as I have seen cases where that helpt very very much.
Take care!
This describes my weekends. Wake up feed the dogs at 5:30 AM and pass out on the couch for 2 hours. Get up fix breakfast and then pass out on the couch, Wake up feel worse than I had previously (Before Nap) go out with the dog then pass out on the couch, wake up about 4:00PM feed the dog - too tired to eat - pass out again on the couch. Wake up at 7:00 PM - go to bed. Rinse and repeat on Sunday.
No, I can't say I do have the nap problem.
Mine was food related. I greatly reduced my sugar and histamine intake and it helped. I suggest keeping a log of what you are eating and doing before your nap attack to see what your triggers are.
I TOO SUFFER FROM NARCOLEPSY WITH CATAPLEXY. HAVE IT FOR OVER 50 YEARS . IM 66. SINCE I CAUGHT COVID FOR A SECOND TIME IN 90 DAYS, ITS OVER NOW. MY SLEEP ATTACKS WHICH WERE SO MILD AND CONTROLLED NOW ARE NOT. I HAD TO INCREASE MY RITALIN BY A HALF A PILL. IVE BEEN ON THE SAME DOSE OVER 30 YEARS.
IT DOES SOUND LIKE YOU HAVE NARCOLEPSY. IF YOU JUST FINISHED COVID AND AFTER 90 DAYS THE SLEEPINESS DOES NOT GET BETTER. I WOULD GET A SLEEP TEST AT A SLEEP CENTER. GOOD LUCK. COVID DOES WIPE YOU OUT.
