I had GERD before contracting Covid. My reflux became extremely worse, causing vomiting, acid coming clear up into my throat, and constant reflux. Upon testing with a tube down my throat for 24 hours, they found out I had acid reflux, but more non-acid reflux. After developing a hernia from all the reflux and vomiting, I had surgery to remove the hernia. Since then, I have no reflux at all. I no longer take any medicines for reflux. The surgery removed only one of my digestive symptoms. I still have multiple symptoms with my digestive system. I also have to watch what I eat, and make sure it does not get caught in my esophagus if it very soft.
