Everything's changing FAST!

Posted by Jennis Huston @jennishuston, Mar 12, 2023

As I approach 50 soon, I find things about my body and health are challenging. I never knew it could be this difficult. Is anyone else having issues?

@jennishuston Oh, yes! Changing fast! I can barely keep up. I was fine until my 70th birthday, then all H… broke loose. Got my first autoimmune disease. Then things started going downhill from there. But, I can still go out with my friends, take day trips, do quilting, and my dog still likes me!! My husband has been my savior-he does everything! And you’re only approaching 50! Stay in shape, go walking everyday, and just live your life as best you can!

Hi Becky- Sending a hug this morning. I love that you still focus on what you can do....I am also learning that (at almost 69.) I just finished reading "Successful Aging" by Daniel Levitin. It's a great read with (my favorite part) a list of ten things to do as we age that can help. I would post them here, but I do not want to infringe on his work. (By the way, I read the book as a self-study program for my RDN, LD.) Anyone else read this book? Since that read, I have been thinking about the concept of unsuccessful aging...what does that look like? And would I want to write about that topic with a bit of humor? Guess if I was Erma Bombeck I could do it. 🙂

That's great! I wish I had a husband to help and love me, but, I've never been married. It's hard to go thru this alone. My dog passed away & he was my best friend. I have family & friends, but, its the quiet & intimate moments where I would love to have someone to share my life with. But, I'm doing well, so, I can't complain!

I’m wondering if you’re experiencing menopause. Are you?

I endorse everything that has been shared. My life has felt like the ocean. It tickles the shore then the waves start to get bigger and no matter how much I try to keep the tide at bay it flushes up and washes up the shore. When the tide recedes I have a clean beach to start over if I want to. Every day is a new beach. It can be anything I want it to be. As I age I see each beach as being more precious.

I work remotely three days a week, but the other two days I have a 1,5 hour commute to work. I started checking out books on CD for just that time. I don’t really feel like I am reading, since to me reading is an actual activity, but I still can enjoy a good book without any effort.

I am currently listening to The Premonition by Michael Lewis about how a group of epidemiologists and other scientists were trying to understand Covid when it was just discovered and challenges of quickly coming up with a response. An excellent book!

Thanks for sharing! I am an audible subscriber now as I have eye issues. I thought books on tape were a major distraction back when they came out…in fact my Dad who was legally blind would listen to disks of books. He loved his first book, calling me every few minutes to ask about the ending…Often I’d find him fast asleep, thinking, well it does serve a great purpose, to RELAX‼️🙏🦋

Looking for happiness is like clutching a shadow or chasing the wind.

We don't enter recovery & find that we are happy ASAP…we need time & patience as life happens to us & not without us‼️If we really work we will know a new freedom & a new happiness…have a great week everyone, filled w/joy ➕spring💐🎶♾️⭐️😍🦋

Love this interpretation. Every new day is an opportunity to become mindful about what things have gone well that day. Art and creativity are my saviors!
