Appointment with Hepatologist on 3/7/2023

Posted by frances007 @frances007, Mar 2, 2023

As many of you may know I am finally seeing a specialist for my liver/pancreas condition next week. I have been preparing a list of questions to ask of the doctor, and I ask if it would be okay to post my questions to this group to find out if anyone has any additional input?
Thank you. It has taken since August 2022 to secure this appointment due to a series of mishaps and misinformation, but I remain positive that this doctor will be able to address my concerns. I am taking a friend with me who will take notes, as I am hearing impaired and read lips. Naturally, with masking, this makes it difficult for me to communicate, however many of my clinicians have removed their masks when talking to me, with the exception of my PCP. No surprise there.

I have dilation of bile and pancreatic ducts, as well as sphincter of odi dysfunction. I have lost 25 percent of my weight in the past year, and I experience frequent diarrhea, nausea, lack of appetite, severe itching and edema when I wear socks. I continue to have pain in my upper right abdomen and cannot eat any foods that contain oil, although I recently discovered that almond butter and safflower oil do not cause a problem. I also have liver cysts which showed up on the MCRP I had in August 2022. While a recent CT scan showed no significant changes, I am still concerned about all of the symptoms I am having. Finally, I am now being worked up for a possible diagnosis of multiple myeloma, and I do not know if there is any relationship between the two conditions.
I think this sums it up.
Again, I am grateful for any input. My gastroenterologist, who I have filed a grievance against, cautioned me about the risks of going into my abdomen to repair the sphincter of odi dysfunction because of the risks. My PCP recently told me that a liver biopsy may be a possibility.
Thank you very much

I have an appointment tomorrow with a liver specialist and I intend to ask her about the cysts on my liver as well as my overall liver condition. I will update my post following my appointment. To date not even my gastro doctor has been able to tell me anything about whether or not I should be concerned about liver cysts. Naturally, I want to know what you want to know as well.

FRANCES, I HAVE LIVER and Bile Duct Cancer. The cancer started in my Bile Ducts a nd spread to my liver. My primary risk factors are heavy Chronic Alcohol Abuse and working with Vinyl Chloride. Yes, the same toxic chemical in the bad train wreck. Your doctor will look at your blood work and the " markers " and go from the there. She could order more tests like an ultrasound or a PET/CT scan. I had both and then did a year of chemotherapy. The chemo did it's job a stabilized the cancer. I have the normal listed side effects which have been tolerable. Feel free to contact me on this forum. I am John in Houston. Be Well. I have a lesion on my liver.
