I’m trying to settle this conflicting information I have gathered. Maybe one of the mentors who have an in with Mayo Clinic could chime in if you have heard something to clarify this, or anyone. What is the best level that your blood level for Vit D should be with osteoporosis. My endocrinologist said between 30-50, information from Algae Cal company say between 60-80. ????

Mine is low 50's. Doc seems pleased. I know there is controversy about how high is too high. Hope a mentor can chime in!

Your doctor is in business to care for you and keep you healthy. Your endocrinologist has special training in blood chemistry, and knows what the appropriate vitamin and mineral levels should be for you, with your particular health in mind.

Algae Cal is not a physician, but a for profit company whose aim is to make the most money possible. The only way they can do that is to sell more product.

All published recommendations for Vitamin D levels by NIH, AMA are between 30-50 ng/mL. I know who I would trust.

Vitamin D is not water soluble, so the excess is not simply excreted in urine. It can build up in your tissues over time, causing unpleasant side effects. This can also cause hypercalcemia, where there is too much calcium in the blood, increasing danger of heart disease.

Too many supplements, or too high doses over a period of time, are not necessarily harmless as many people believe. They can cause symptoms as above, and interfere with normal body processes, or with prescribed medications.

Are your levels of both Vit D and calcium being monitored regularly?
