Yes. I went to the hospital and they did a a blood draw. They had me eat before I came in. The technician then took the blood and separated the blood from the plasma and made the drops. They are put into tubes that hold about 3 drops. You need a dedicated scissors to cut the tubes and you need to use alcohol to clean both the tubes and the scissors every time to eliminate the chance of infections. The plasma is rather thick and coagulates kind of keeping your eye protected.
Hope this helps.
My husband, who has an organic chemistry background believes that the plasma emulsion improves wetting and reduces evaporation, as well as being safe versus something like polyethylene glycol, which is dangerous with similar characteristics.
There are many procedures, for many different medical issues, that draw blood to separate and retrieve plasma.
I think that person is being facetious. I can't imagine why he/she felt the need to be sarcastic on this site. There is no way a doctor would have someone make their own eyedrops from their own blood and put them in their eyes four times a day.
