Plantar Fasciitis: How did you get rid of it?
I don't know if this is where this should be posted, but I have a few questions. Almost seems like it goes hand and hand with neuropathy.
Have you had it and how did you get rid of it. I have done 2 injections.. I use ice and ice bottle almost nightly, I've massaged, I've purchased special shoes, and I've worn compression sleeves, plus I've done the night splint.. It just won't go away. I know it's because of the atrophy on that calf.
If you've had it please share what worked for you to get rid of it.

Both myself and my husband have had it. First, we threw out our old run down sneakers and replaced them with new well made ones. Next, got good arch supports from Amazon, cost about $40. Then made a point of resting our foot on this blue ice thing, again from Amazon, when we where sitting down. we also tried to stay off our feet as much as possible. It took at least a month but it did go away...good luck !
PF is really painful. I thought I had a heel spur but the
foot Doctor did the cortisone injection and called it PF.
After that, checking on the internet I found exercises to do for relief. The best for me was;
Face a wall, raise the hands and lean on the wall and then raise the body and stand on the toes for a count of
one to ten, stop and repeat 3 or four times.
I did this twice daily until the pain quit. I have not had an episode since.
There are other exercises to do also. Check it out on the internet.
I never had injections for it. That would have helped.
PF is super painful, I agree. I'm glad the exercises worked for you!
I rarely have flare ups now that the inflammation went down and I started wearing better shoes (arch support).
I am happy for you. I have never been told about the better shoes, so I will be checking on that. My shoes
are the el-cheapo's from China. Flat bottom's seem to
cause me to think that the heel is sinking too low.
When I wear my diabetic shoes that feeling will not be there. Arch supports sounds great.
I cried thinking I would have to stop walking my hour a day, but then I saw a foot doctor that saved me!
Contrast baths to reduce inflammation/pain, ice bottle rolling, then, before rising from bed, exercise to strengthen calves(stretch belt on feet). Im back to power walking, over an hour, and so grateful. You can bypass expensive orthotics, if you do these things. The drugstore has affordable arch support. 😁
Hi @naviv, A number of years ago, I had it pretty bad in both feet for a number of months. I was fitted for orthotics. I used them and also used Thermoskin Plantar FXT (available on Amazon) at night during sleep. It wasn't a splint, it was soft and fit over the foot with a strap that could be adjusted to keep the toes in an upright position. I never got a shot or had any other treatment. The odd time I've felt slight pain in my feet I just wear the Thermoskins for a couple of nights until the pain goes away. Although my feet are size 6, I found it better to go a size up with the Plantar FXTs.
Hi……the footwear called FitFlop was originally developed for this…..however it is the biggest name out there for comfort, evidenced by so many hospitals using their medical clogs…..white and black. I am NOT a salesperson for them at all. I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and have had many many operations to secure my balance and joints. What has held me in great stead through it all are Fit Flops. The thick original ones. You set your feet into them and they imprint and correct, the differential from one side of your body to the other . No one can wear them but you as they change the imprint. They redistribute your weight to accommodate pressure points . They also have a wobble board in the bottom of the heel to stabilize you and keep your balance. If you lose a lot of weight, or get a new hip or knee or ankle, throw them out and start again. I have actually put them all through the dishwasher to imprint them anew, but it is just 75% effective I think. They are boots, and flip flop and shoes and sneakers and walking shoes and boat shoes……all of it. I get them on Amazon as it’s a lot cheaper and watch for sales. If you wear a half size, go down to the whole size. I give them to brides w the crystal sparkles on them to wear at their receptions and honestly every bride it thrilled and said they made their feet so happy which made them so happy after hours in shoes. I give them to my surgeons after double surgeries, and they always let me know that I doubles their ability to stand in hours of surgery with no back pain. I made my husband wear them when he was told he might need back surgery. He never needed back surgery!……I had my mother wear them with PD at 90 and she was the only patient walking upright in the unit. Try them. You can always return them. They have sliders and slip ones and anything you can imagine. Treat yourself! Never buy them on eBay. Or used. They are ruined for anyone else. Oh….and different model shoes tend to work different muscles ,so if you don’t like the feel of one just return and get a different type. You are buying the sole bed! They are also microbicrobial!….so I have them even in the garden w no socks…..the clogs. I do highly recommend the thick ones….the original ones as they act as shock absorbers when you are walking. I also want you to know that I never needed PT again after surgery. I’d just buy a new pair and walk out happily…….the PT for my next surgery just called and I told her no….didn’t need it for the first poly knee exchange and won’t need it for the second. …….my sister only likes the shoes, my daughter only the slip ones, my son loves the sneakers in Manhattan my daughter in law won’t go to work without them and shes a nurse who originally got them for me. I hope you have the same pain freeing experience! God Bless
I just ordered a pair of fit flops, thanks so much for sharing! I have plantar fasciitis and chronic pain in my lower back and neuropathic pain in my legs so I look forward to finding some relief 😅
I have had plantar fasciitis a few times in the past. I did the stretching, the icing with the frozen water bottle, the physical therapy etc. I went to a podiatrist who, after a time, prescribed custom made orthotics for me. I have had them now for almost four years and wear them in my sneakers all the time. I could not believe the difference that they made. Since wearing them, I have not had any more plantar fasciitis! However, when I do have to wear dress shoes, my feet begin to hurt because they are not supported as well. I try to stick to my sneakers (Nike, with a higher heel, along with the orthotics!). Best wishes to you as you find a solution to this nagging problem! MaryAnn from Boston
Thank you. I am going to see a podiatrist in 2 days. I will keep in mind the orthotics. I just hope it goes away. Happy to hear you are feeling good.
