What helps to relieve pain in my butt?

Posted by ofemipupo @ofemipupo, Dec 28, 2021

I have been having pain in my butt when I sit and sometimes getting up from a sitting position is stressful. Sometimes pressing on the tail end of my spine/butt is painful. OIA

I have been having serious issues for 15 years with my sitting and now even standing, mostly bed ridden. I am going to see a vascular surgeon because they just saw that I have Nutcracker’s syndrome and this might be why it hurts to sit , I’m not sure yet, very painful and frustrating,

I’m so sorry that you’re bed ridden. Do you have spinal problems? I have a pinched nerve in L4 and it has it made me have terrible pain and heaviness in my leg and limited mobility, it also feels like I’m sitting and laying on a pile of rocks.
What is nutcracker syndrome?

In response to your question I have had Back Surgery (L-5-S1), 2005, as well as cervical fusion at level (C-3-C4). 2007. I was told that I had DDD years ago, I recently got a MRI of the fused L-5-S-1 because my doctor thought it may be causing my leg pain but my back doctor said he didn’t see anything from the MRI I had to cause this. I am going to try and get a second opinion and more images because, there are some things they saw on the images like a disc bulge I was told by MD, this is above my fusion, and even years ago my Back doctor told me that I may someday need to get the hardware out, but he didn’t say anything about that when I saw him, that’s why I am going to get second opinion, I already got another appointment to see my Podiatrist, he said he thought it was from my back when I saw him last year so now IDK what he is going to say. I have been noticing that if I lay on my right side it causes a cramp in the arch of my foot and pain is excruciating 😣 for like 5 minutes

I too feel like I’m sitting on a rock on the left ischium and it’s my 2 end toes on the left, then just a couple days ago when we left to go to store my upper thigh was on fire. , I could not make it had to return home immediately, IDK if it’s all caused by this diagnosis I just got Nutcrackers Syndrome. I have a appointment with a Vascular surgeon so I hope he knows, he is a Professor and has been knowledgeable about this disease but I can’t see him till March 6, feels like I’m stuck but I’m trying my best to figure this out because I use to be very active and now I’m atrophied and weaker, now my weight has dropped down again to 98 after working hard to get to 109 last year, before I became sicker, very depressed about my health problems

Oh, I feel your pain…in the butt! When we take long car trips, if I don’t have the seat adjusted correctly my lower tailbone area hurts like the dickens when I get out of the car and try to walk around. I also bought a special cushion of memory foam to put under my bum while riding.
With some forethought and and moving my position in the car, I no longer have the issue.

How long have you had this happening? Do you have any lower back pain or aches in your legs? Any symptoms of sciatica? Can you remember when this all began, such as spending more time sitting during covid? A new chair? Does it make any difference where you’ve been sitting or for how long? Do you remember sitting down too hard or falling?

While waiting for more members to respond, I found a conversion about tailbone pain you might want to take a look at. Here’s the link:

Also, here’s a video I found to help relief tailbone pain.

If this pain persists, it’s a good idea to check in with your primary care provider just to rule out any potential medical issues.
Does this ease up after you’ve been walking around for a few minutes?

I feel your pain, I have a condition called boney island. IT's similar to bone spur off my tailbone. After ct scan years ago, Nothing helped pain beyond Motrin, Advil, Tylenol. After a kidney transplant the best for a few hours of pain free time now what a friend gave me. I didn't believe in it until I tried it. CBD balm which is used only on area of pain. ACCORDING to my osteo dr. this does not ever blood stream in case you are taking medication and have other conditions. Please check with your drs. Some Drs are open to it and some doctors will not take a stand.

Investigate, this may be an answer to elevate you pain. It's a personal decision. Worth investigating. I call it natures Tylenol. Good luck.

I have had pain when sitting for a couple years now. Have gone to orthopedic, chiropractor, and PT. Now my ortho is sending me to a spine doctor next week. I’ve recently had severe cramping in upper front thigh from sitting too long I guess. Also, I am extremely stiff in my knees/hips. Can hardly bend down. Don’t know if that’s related. Hope spine doctor has some answers. But, my question is: an injection in my spine was mentioned at one point by ortho. I have osteoporosis and have heard those weaken the spine. Do they? I sure don’t need that to happen. BTW, the ortho first said bursitis plus SI inflammation. Thanks, for any input.

I had same and just found out that it’s a Vascular condition called Nutcrackers Syndrome, CT scan w contrast was used to identify. I’ve had L5-S1 fused, I also have received injections to my ischium and my hips, they don’t always work out.

That’s very interesting! I am in so much pain on my Tailbone I’m going to try some right now and see if it works for me. I have a congested pelvic syndrome called Nutcrackers that causes pain on my left side, and a very rare Ischiofemoral Hip Impingement on both sides, I’m still working on seeing a specialist vascular surgeon for this, Cant be seen till April 17, 2023. I hope to get a Air bed this week delivered because I’m bedridden now, just before Christmas my condition went from bad to worse, I don’t know if all this pain is from compressed arteries, and veins but I believe it makes a lot of sense the tailbone has no blood flow, I fell out a upstairs window when I was 11, I have total lipodystrophy 94 lbs, no subcutaneous fat anywhere on my body, that in itself is very painful. I stopped taking all the pain medication the doctor gave me because it didn’t help my problem, only helped my pain . But I’m afraid that I have to get back on, I hate the ugly stigma attached to the use of opioids, I honestly don’t think I can live in constant pain like this. My doctor had me taking 30 mg morphine with 5 mg oxycodone for breakthrough, it was keeping me comfortable He told me too , if I was to ever stop I’d need to tapper off gradually, which I didn’t do, instead I shut myself down and went into deep depression because nobody knows how to help me. QOL is gone. I’m also vaping pure THC oil for comfort, and I eat the Rick Simpson Oil my son prepares me.
He believes that will cure me, but honestly I don’t know. I was diagnosed with Barrett’s Esophagus but after I ate the oil my GI said he no longer sees Barrett’s on last endoscopy. It does not take my pain away from nerves, but it makes my depression feel better

Thanks sooo much for this very helpful response. I first noticed the problem for a few minutes ,while trying to get up from a sitting position about 3 months ago. I just found getting up very painful. It was a one off experience and seemed to disappear. Later I started noticing a dull but sharp pain almost in the center of my bum about where the buttocks separate. For a while the pain was only when I was sitted and became very dull and almost none existent when I stood up. I don’t have pains in either legs because I also searched online trying to relate it to the suggestions ( sciatica, pri…..) made there. It didn’t seem to match any of those. I also cannot remember any incident that could triggered it. I have had an history of spondylitis in my neck but I have not had the pain in my neck and left arm in a long time. I thought perhaps this new pain is related to spondylitis after reading something online yesterday. Yesterday also on closer examination by my partner, we concluded the pain was down the middle of the left butt. It was painful to touch and even sitting down now, I tend to bend to the right. It does ease up when I stand and might be related to the tailbone. I will try the exercises you suggested for starters . Thanks very much.

I use lidocaine patches and do lots of yoga. Knees up, roll around on tailbone. Sleeping is so important so I take Ambian at night.

I use the CBD/THD BALM ALSO. Pain management is all day long. But if you stop moving daily we only make the recovery worse. I’ve had a lot of physical therapy over 40 years of my 68 year lifespan.
Ski ing, tennis, golf and working on my feet for 50 years and still moving
