My Recovery Strategy: Things are getting better

Posted by prancer20 @prancer20, Feb 11, 2023

I think I am very gradually getting better 9 weeks post Covid. I have learned that trying to do too much exercise when I have felt better can lead to an energy crash. I think that the trick is to very gradually increase my exercise routine and to give myself a day or two of rest in between. Twenty minutes of yoga, then rest, eating lunch or a snack and a short walk is what I am doing now. I am monitoring how I feel for now and am hoping that I will be able to start dancing a little again maybe in a few weeks.

Prancer20, I know how you feel. Before anyone asks, I am fully vaccinated and have all the boosters for Covid. I had my first bout of Covid in January 2022. I had a cardiac work up a few months later because I was having tachycardia with minimal exertion. The tests showed some mild valve leakage and a few PVCs. The cardiologist said it was not significant. He did not want to prescribe medication because my resting heart rate is low. Fast forward to Christmas Eve 2023. I had Covid again. Fortunately this time the doctor prescribed Paxlovid and I felt better in about 48 hours. I am still having problems with tiring easily and heart rate elevating with mild housework. It seems to be getting a little better, but it is very frustrating.

Yes, I am fully vaxed and boosted also and am really suffering with Post Covid stuff anyway.
My heart rate goes up quite easily now also. I already have some valve issues as well, but I was doing well before Covid.
I had cardio ablation for Afib about 7 years ago and that was quite successful.

Is the fatigue caused by cardio issues? Will this subside with time? Hopefully I can get some advice and honest answers from the Long Covid Clinic practitioners. So far, my cardio practitioner doesn't seem very interested. In general, medical establishment doesn't seem very interested.
I am glad that you have seen a little improvement. The past week has been basically a nightmare of fatigue and depression. Maybe one day I will get better!

I can understand your frustration. I had covid April 2022 and am still experiencing heart rates of over 100 with minimal activity (eg walking up a flight of stairs, slowly walking around the block, etc). The physio at the long covid clinic wants me to keep my HR under 55% of my maximal heart rate to try and control my post exertional malaise. I find it very limiting. Anything more than sitting and smiling gets the HR up too high. Has anyone else received similar advise?

I tried to respond to your entry but somehow it did not go through.

Yes, I am fully vaxed and boosted also. I think the original vaccinations worked pretty well for me, but I no longer have much faith in what the medical establishment advises. I am sorry that I am bitter, but the vaccinations may work to keep people out of the hospital, but they don't seem to protect us very well from post Covid illness. Now is time for research to concentrate on helping us. Most people around her are not bothering with boosters anyway.

I have managed my cardio challenges very well with help from my docs. I was doing very well until Covid finally got me in December 2023.
I am glad you are feeling a little better. I can only pray and hope that I will get better before too long!

I wish there was such a thing as a long Covid clinic where I live. I did not have any of these issues prior to Covid and the doctors don’t seem to understand the problem.

I don't think any of the doctors understand much as of now. I am hoping that there might be some who are now somewhat specializing in this thing and might help a little since they may have some perspective and experience with Long Covid.
I am also hoping maybe they can recommend some holistic relief and maybe let me know of clinical trials. Maybe a few might actually listen to me!
I will post anything I find out.

Tried to post but lost? Just wanted to share this validation of what we all similarly are experiencing is healing in itself. Hopeful that as more healthcare providers experience long covid themselves the journey will be much easier for all. Healing recovery to all🙂

After making me wait 3 months to qualify for "Long Haul Covid" clinic, I now have to wait until the second week of May to have an appointment with the one specialist who is doing this at Scripps Health.
His resume is impressive and he is associated with research, so I am hoping he can give me some suggestions and refer me if appropriate. Maybe he will have some insight into holistic and alternative treatments. Perhaps some drugs or trails?
I have had some better days with more energy and don't feel tired until after 5 or 6 PM on some days, so that is hopeful. The insomnia is pretty challenging right now, but I have just had to come to terms with the fact that I will have to get my sleep in increments some nights, instead of continuous flow. I am retired, so I can take naps, thank goodness.
My prayers to all of us who are suffering. Let's have a day of hope and prayer.

So I just read an article in the British Medical Journal, "The Lancet". It described how little attention is being paid to "Long Covid" in the media, the government, and the medical and scientific community. It also addressed how little funding is being supplied to scientific research aimed at finding a cure.
I am glad that some in the British medical community are paying attention. Maybe the only way we sufferers will finally be paid attention to is when the economy is affected more adversely.
