Pins and needles plus vibrations SFN?
Hi. I've been suffering from a total body pins and needles or micro vibrating felling that came on in 2 days in December. Plus some jerking in body. I had some pins and needles in legs and seat before but then it spread to entire body including face, gums, tounge etc. I've been trying to find a neurologist since but in the mean time I've been trying to hold on to my sanity and it's getting harder. I have many other symptoms and it could be a systemic disease but I was just wondering if you can have this paresthesia feeling all over body for 3 months before you start getting pain and loss of sensation to show that it is polyneuropathy?
Or do the pins and numbness and pain come together in one limb at the time?
I have something that feels like buzzing, vibrating, pricking everywhere as soon as I relax. I also have twitching in hand, lips, tounge sometimes but it comes and goes. I know some of you suffer horribly with neuropathic pain and I'm ashamed to say that this is so devastating for me but everytime I try and fall asleep I can feel my lips, face and entire body tingling and vibrating and it is such a horrible feeling that I can only sleep a few hours when I'm exhausted . And then I have to wake up to this horror again.Sometimes it takes 24 hours before I fall asleep.
I don't think I can live with this if there is no treatment. It's a 24/7 feeling of being tortured and it's in my whole face too.
I thought maybe in a neuropathy group someone maybe know if there was any medication to quiet down nerve tingling because Im starting to feel that I would rather be dead. Tried benzodiazepam and that does not help at all. Ive been bedridden for a cluster of symptoms for over 9 weeks and I may have weeks to endure before a diagnosis but frankly I don't know that my mind can do it anymore. I know native Americans used to sometime bury enemies in anthills and I'm experiencing a milder version that and how do I get through the next hour??? I'd honestly rather have both my legs sawed off than this. Is there any hope anybody can give me??

Hi @tinatoren. I am sorry to hear what you are going through. I recently found this article that has some good information and actually describes what I am going through which I will give to my doctor to see about doing more testing as they gave up quickly and only offered me a pain clinic: https://www.ccjm.org/content/85/10/801 (I fit the random patterns suggest an immune cause).
The Mayo Clinic website does list drug treatment options on this page although I personally have declined them so I cannot comment on how well they work: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/peripheral-neuropathy/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20352067.
Have you talked to your primary care physician about this? They may be able to prescribe something in the links above that can give you some relief.

I'm waiting for neurologist.
Been to ER, primary etc they have no clue.
I do have sometimes at night similar symptoms all over body and after trying a few things to relax and sleep, I found that melatonin helps, but best for me is medicinal cannabis. Started with 0.5ml, up to 1ml . It's 10mg cbd/ 10mg thc in one ml. 10:10
Also 5- htp helps.
Only one thing of those! Either melatonin, or 5-htp, or cannabis.
Taken before bed🤞
Those symptoms come and go.
Thanks I wish I could try those. Maybe I could get melatonin prescribed but unfortunately cannabis is illegal here or I would have tried it. I think you can get pills for terminal cancer and glaucoma but that's it.
Maybe cbd oil is attainable but they are working hard to forbid it so I don't know. I used to buy melatonin from us many years ago but customs won't allow any supplements now. They even sent back a jar of miralax as illegal can you imagine!
Where are you located?
In Sweden.
@tinatoren, I have the same symptoms as you especially at night. I wake up in the middle of the night because of the internal vibration. Until you see a neurologist, see if ibuprofen (like Advil) helps. I am not a doctor but that helps me. Also putting ice packs on your face, limbs, etc. helps with the pins and needles. Also try to move around and exercise if you can. Once you are on proper medication, it will really help. Now that I am on gabapentin and Cymbalta, these symptoms are significantly reduced. Also makes sure you push the doctor to find the underlying cause of your symptoms (mine was idiopathic) so you can get proper treatment. Don’t give up hope!
Thanks for the encouragement. It really helps me to go on living!
Afraid of ibuprofen because of severe stomach pain and reflux etc but maybe I will try one pill.
That gabapentin or Cymbalta might help gives me hope!
Hello,
I've been experiencing similar symptoms for two months now. The doctors have suspected small fiber neuropathy, fibromyalgia, and the newest diagnosis is migraine associated vertigo. They prescribed gabapentin which has helped decrease the feeling of pins and needles and tingling, burning, bug crawling feeling. They have not found an autoimmune trigger at this point and are just treating the symptoms. I understand your pain. I have been out of work due to these symptoms, along with balance issues, numbness in hands and feet, confusion, and dizziness.
Best of luck to you,
Kat
Thank you for telling me. I've hav fibromyalgia and chronic Fattigue for 20 years and never had any tingling, crawling etc until consuming large amounts of Prilosec for reflux. I don't know if it is connected. But after eating 40mg of nexium for 35 days these symptoms came on I pretty much 48 hours. It's like something broke in my brain since it's in my face lips cheeks tounge etc plus neck and body. I have had leg tingling before though also after having consumed Prilosec in 2020 and 2021. But when I crash with stomach problems other things change like sitting up in bed etc so I don't know anymore. The thing is that any spinal issues should not involve face. Cranial nerves are in skull. But Im no doctor I'm just exhausted and confused.
