Devastated by neuropathy

Any advice on how to deal with neuropathy caused by carelessness of a practitioner??

Get prepared if having TKR, it does cause foot neuropathy and
from my experience, is not normally mentioned by surgeons. In
fact, the surgeon for my first knee, supposedly one of the best,
denies it’s even a possibility. That was BS.
When I had my second knee done, by another surgeon, he advised
me without asking that foot neuropathy could be a side effect.
After meeting with a general surgeon, post-surgery, he confirmed
absolutely that foot neuropathy post-surgery is an issue.

vinran - Perhaps I am lucky that my orthopedic surgeon won't do knee replacement due to my PN. I have bone on bone both knees, get gel shots and steroid injections. The steroid help for 8 weeks. Got 2nd opinion and they refused surgery as well, so I live with the pain. Their concern is if I fall with knee replacement and do damage to the prosthetic knee, could be in worse shape than now. I don't need more neuropathy! Odd...nobody ever mentioned to me this possibility of PN even before my dx of PN and I've had knee issues for 12 years due to being a runner in my 40's and 50's now early 70's.

yes I too ran most of my adult life until my first knee surgery at 72, I knew then that running all those years wasn't good for me. With two TKR's I can no longer run. I just walk now. But the neuropathy, sad to say , is probably here the remainder of my life. I try to adjust and manage it best I can. So far, Gabapentin works through the night and I can sleep. I just hope that continues to be the case.

I have recently been diagnosed with sensory axonal peripheral polyneuropathy but have yet to discuss treatment options with my doctor.

Also I'd like to add that I thank God that I get a good night's sleep almost every night I get 7 hours or so probably on the average and then when I wake up my feet are not hurting real bad just time to take my medicine again I just thank the Lord Jesus Christ

Gabapentin- didn’t knock me out but had seizures. Lyrica- mad the neuropathy worse.
Nortriptyline felt like knives were going through my body. I passed out from the pain.
Cymbalta- made me have seizures.

Acupuncture didn’t help. Nor dry needling.
