Iron deficiency anemia and low blood platelets: What's the cause?

Posted by ericjay @ericjay, Feb 11, 2023

Pls last year after treating typhoid I noticed I keep spitting out blood thought it was cause of low vitamin c but after few medications it got worse,I started bleeding nonstop from my gums , started having blood blisters appearing in my mouth also my skin like a tiny red rash , went to the hospital and did some test and it came out I have iron deficiency anemia and very low blood platelets
Doctor said I’ll need a blood platelets transfusion
But the thing is we are yet to know why I have that low platelets
Could it be cancer?? I’m just 22

@ericjay, I can imagine that you are worried. Iron deficiency anemia can have many causes. See this article:
- Iron deficiency anemia https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/iron-deficiency-anemia/symptoms-causes/syc-20355034

It sounds like your doctors are working to raise your platelets and iron. What testing are they doing to confirm the cause?

My doctor didn’t do a bone marrow test for me but we did multiple blood test and xray scan and then told me it was my immune that’s attacking my platelets

Doctors don't really know what effects the Covid vaccines have on our bodies.Still experimental! I did not have blood loss that is the only possible reason for Hgb,HCT,MCV,MCH,MCHC being very low, but my RBC counts were at normal levels 4.26,Platelet count high but going down. My PA suggested going to a Hematologist, Cardiologist, getting brain and neck Cat/CT scan, colonoscopy, scoped for gastro disorders, taking iron elixir and having CBC again 2-4 wks.

What I would like to know is the vaccine Pfizer Bivalent mRNA Covid-19, going to stay in my cells, how long until the vaccine has no effect? Will the effects be permanent?

Get he blood/platelet transfusion you will feel better. Although further testing to check your blood CBC will tell if you are really better. No radiation of any kind that can kill cells at this time since your low on platelets. Ultrasounds can explore without radiation.Keep a positive attitude!

That’s how I found out. I had fun Willebrand’s disease when I was 26 von Willebrand’s disease, depending on what type you have is the lack of A certain amount of platelets or the strand in your DNA, called your von Willebrand factor that determines platelet activity within your blood I started bruising for no reason my gums bleed my nose, bleed I was coughing up blood. Also maybe something you might wanna get checked for?

I am a healthy 41 year old who started having symptoms 8 months ago (heart palpitations, mouth cracking, weight loss) and was given Prozac. Then six months later I ended up in the hospital and it turned out I had major blood loss and severe anemia (hemoglobin 6, MCV 24, ferritin 0, RDW 25 % and more). They assumed I had a GI bleed I didn’t know about. I have now had 8 iron IVs and all the GI tests are negative. While my hemoglobin went up, my ferritin is wild goes up and down. I can’t seem to hold the iron too long, and need pretty constant IVs. My hemoglobin went up to 13 and recently dropped again to 11. My ferritin went up to 152 and down to 40. My RDW are still 25 percent and my monocytes are low but otherwise everything looks normal. They are saying “it’s a mystery you are fine” but I don’t feel great and I’m scared this will happen again. What might be the source of my anemia? Could it be a Tatar blood disease and what should I do? Happy to upload my blood work and tests if that helps -Magda
