I have been seeing an audiologist who tested my hearing and gave me hearing aids which I’m happy with. I told her that I have soft pleasant music in my ears much of the time. I usually her a chorus, more often men than women, and it’s high quality voices. Often there will be definite familiar beautiful songs like Amazing Grace or other hymns or sweet things like Swing low sweet chariot or patriotic songs, but never with words. Sometimes it’s just a repetition of 2 or 3 notes in the same pattern over and over. The audiologist said nothing about this except to say that this is called musical tinnitus. I think I’ll try to join your discussion group for which I haven’t formally signed up. I told my psychiatrist who said nothing about this condition or whether it’s a factor in my generalized anxiety or my MCI … I don’t know if many others hear music like this.

Heidi Ruth. I certainly hear music in my head. I have had worsening tinnitus for 30 years but the musical phrases and chorus only appeared within the pas 5 years.
