Cervical Neck Cytology Biopsy
Anyone had mibg scan show mild uptake right of neck, imaging showing that of a carotid body tumor of neck? An ultrasound show well circumscribed hypoechoic bilateral 3.9 cm and 3.1 cm nodes in submadubular region. MRI w/gadolinium showed bilateral 3.9 cm and 3.1 cm nodes jugulastiric region. Then had MRI orbit 6 months later showing they'd grown some and recommended biopsy. Being a para had been mentioned when I had mibg scan for first ever scan i was very nervous of that but proceeded anyway. Even though I've had normets show over 4 xs normal level but mets normal? Have high blood pressure not controllable with meds they've tried u on, elevated pulse rate and, wwight gain with no change in diet, lethargic with fatigue that would be an understatement to say the least but not able to stay asleep awakening every 2 hrs every single time. The worst symptom of all, if I get up and start moving around I start PROFUSELY SWEATING that won't stop n unless I lie down. When one moves around there vitals of course become elevated somewhat and I'm assuming that's what brings on the sweating with flushing. The biopsy report doesn't show microscopic detail but says it was added with dragon software to my report to doctor I believe. However my report added to mychart simply states as diagnosis.....a biopsy done on right lymph node of neck measuring 2.1 cm in short axis they took the specimen from showed SCANT BENIGN LYMPHOID TISSUE. The ICD code used was, D 36.0 88305 and D 36.0 is a benign neoplasm and the 88305 means a microscopic biopsy. I want to know the microscopic details and slides tested for exactly which different ones. Does the diagnosis mean there's a neoplasm in my lymph node or does it mean what they thought was bilateral swollen nodes for over 3 yrs now is actually a growing neoplasm? Being I'm so symptomatic what would treatment options be, removal of lymph node?

I have carcinoid symptoms, high blood pressure, elevated pulse, extreme profuse sweating with physical exertion after 5 mins simply folding load of laundry, normets 4 xs over normal level but mets normal. Fatigue is an understatement but unable to stay asleep and awaken every 2 hrs nightly past 3 yrs. Major weight gain, 35 pounds in a few months with no diet change. Never had weight issue before and came exercise bc blood pressure sky-high uncontrollable with meds, elevated pulse and the sweating. Mibg scan showed mild uptake right of neck similar to that of carotid body tumor if neck. MRI showed 3.9 cm and 3.1 cm bilateral nodes submadubular region. MRI orbit 7 months later showed they'd increased in bulk marginally. Also noted node right next to cervical vasculature. Had cytology biopsy of right of neck from biggest node in short axis and showed, D36.0, scant benign neoplasm of lymph nodes. Being I'm highly symptomatic, what type of doctor do I see now to have them removed so symptoms stop? I called Mayo Clinic in Rochester and they said Neurosurgery dept I wouldn't qualify to see that department.
@hdanielle62000, you must be very concerned. The symptoms you describe are not listed as typical symptoms for benign carotid body tumors. See this information from Weill Cornell Medicine:
- Symptoms of a Carotid Body Tumor https://weillcornellbrainandspine.org/condition/carotid-body-tumors/symptoms-carotid-body-tumor
You may wish to seek evaluation with a cerebrovascular neurosurgeon.
Might your symptoms be related to a separate issue?
I had a neck biopsy done and the last mri orbit I had done it states NOT cartoid body tumor and recommended a neck biopsy bc suspected lymphoma. Cytology biopsy report shows scant benign lymphoid tissue found in ĺymph node. I've also heard from people in a pheo para group they were told there's was lymphoma to also and came back CBT. Yes I do have carcinoid symptoms and don't match. Also told that lymph nodes can't be fully examined to determine benign or metastatic unless fully removed and tested entire lymph node.
