Hi @dfesmondg29 If you feel you’re experiencing an internal bleed from the placement of a catheter, don’t hesitate to get that investigated ASAP. If you have low platelets that’s a risky time to have any catheter or anything which could potentially cause bleeding.
Was this a urinary catheter or a catheter in a vein?
From my understanding, rarely, there can be a tiny bit of blood with insertion of a urinary catheter if skin is nicked. But it’s generally minor and stops quickly. However, with reduced platelets there can be more of an issue because of the lack of clotting ability. Bleeding can also be a sign of an infection.
If you’re still having bleeding, it’s definitely something worth contacting your physician for an opinion.

Urinary catheter - would a bleed caused by the insertion of the catheter cause an immediate medical emergency?

Did the bleeding stop?
