Pulsatile tinnitus

Posted by beatricefay @beatricefay, Jun 2, 2018

Started getting heart beat sounds in right ear only. Got an MRA to check the arteries (no results yet). Strangely the sounds start in the evening and continue when I go to bed. I have no idea why it's quiet during the day. Has anyone else had this experience. If my arteries are okay in my brain then I have to look for other causes. Any ideas. I checked medication side effects but that doesn't seem to be the cause. One night I exercised in the evening and I had no sounds, but that didn't work yesterday. I'm perplexed.

Make sure it's a foam earplug. Buy at drug store or on Facebook really cheap. The foam on earplug expands in the ear. You first squeeze and roll it then quickly put in ear and it expands. Good luck !!

Don't have pulsatile tinnitus, just regular, constant white noise tinnitus. Will foam earplugs help, I wonder?

My husband had tinnitus but won't try them lol.

I tried foam earplugs last night. I really wanted them to work for my pulsatile tinnitus. Unfortunately, they did not work for me.

Did you insert them so you couldn't hear sounds around you? Not assuming anything lol. Sometimes i have to insert them once or twice til they fit correctly.
I'm sorry they didn't help.

I inserted them in until I didn't hear any sound. Except for the whoosing. But you are right, they can be a little tricky to insert. It's a little weird because I could feel them expanding.

I'll give it another go tonight.

Jerry’s girl, I have regular tinnitus and sometimes pulsatile tinnitus. I have tried all kinds of ear plugs and I have found that because they block out other sound the tinnitus is more noticeable rather than less noticeable.

I only have the pulsatile tinnitus, and was told it's probably a vein and my ear is just picking up the turbulent flow sound. I don't hear it when my head is in certain position.

It's interesting that yours only happens sometimes.

Which type of specialist do you see for this? Vascular specialist?

Look at http://www.whooshers.com for MDs who understand “pulsatile tinnitus.”
I saw 2 neurointerventional radiologists in NYU-Langone 10+years ago.
