My 2006 kidney pre-transplant testing took place over 2-3 days and consisted of blood tests, usual chest X-ray and cardiac tests, bone density and extensive history. No way did it require 3 weeks Good luck.

Lloyd31405 i am actually going to end up there for 21 days , i have 2 days i think of no testing ~ i not only have the test's you had but will meet with what feels like every department in the hospital ! lol , social worker , dietician , infectiouse disease doc etc etc etc . did you have your Transplant at the Mayo ?? , i hope you are doing well . thank you

Sorry for the delay. I've had unrelated issues. On further reflection, my initial pre-tx evaluation was a week. But Mayo is VERY thorough and their protocol is always under review. I was transplanted at Mayo, Jacksonville in 2/2009. It was preemptive; I wasn't on dialysis. Hospitalized 5 days; stayed in Jax for about five weeks, including hospital time. Very, very close follow up. First year was difficult emotionally for me; had to get accustomed to lab fluctuations - panicked at slightest change. I'm now 4 1/2 years out, creatine stabilized and clearance quite good. I'm anemic and subject to relatively minor infections, but it's a small price to pay. Feel free to call me at 912-25-8485.

Lloyd hope this finds you well .I am home from pre transplant testing and have to say it was a busy time but nothing uncomfortable . I am awaiting the results of one last test then they will make a final decision , the transplant surgeon said i am an excellent candidate so we shall see . Things are worse then we realized but i am keeping the faith 🙂 . I understand the panicking as i can see myself doing this also as i am sure many do .yes i am willing to pay the small prices too to be able to have more time with my children and husband and family . thank you for taking the time to talk with me .

Hang tough! Are you on dialysis? If not, what's your clearance? If the doctor told you that you're a good candidate, I'd expect the committee to put you on the list. Everyone is different, f course, but I had a 2yr/2 mo wait. My first call for a trx was a false alarm ... I was admitted, cleared for surgery, then a couple of hours before trx, doctor advised me that biopsy of cadaver donor kidney revealed problems. Returned home and two weeks later got the call which led to my transplant.
