Does Anyone Have A Constant Buzzing Sound In Your Ears?

It sounds like tinnitus. Apparently 6 million Americans have it. Especially veterans returning from war. There is no cure as of yet but your wife is in good and plentiful company. I have tinnitus for about 35 years. It’s hard to get used to so please be patient with your wife.

Did I read your message right? Did you say you sometimes hear music sounds? I thought it was just me and having a psychiatric problem. I am so happy (not that you are experiencing this) that I am not alone in this very odd auditory symptom! Thank you for your post.

Sharon..Yes I hear music and musical notes and phrases. This is an auditory phenomenon called “musical ear”
Of course this is the brain fabricating sound for unknown reasons. Doesn’t mean you are going crazy.

I have musical fragments 24/7. Some are pleasant but others sound like fast drumming which is very uncomfortable. The phrase goes round and round and round - some call it ear-worm. Yes, it’s nice to know we’re not the only ones!

Thanks for your response. I was seriously considering talking to my psychiatrist about this. Knowing that others have this same phenomenon gives me a sense of relief and now quite curious to know more. Mine is also 24/7 and it’s bits of songs. To late it’s been a military tune and (Still) Christmas songs. I can block it by listening to music, which makes little sense and seems ironic.

No blocking it for me: I’ve developed pitch distortion so I can no longer listen to music. The best I can say is that it’s not always very noisy. Seems about one or two times a week it ramps up. I have heard often that barometric pressure makes all forms of tinnitus worse, and in New England we’ve had a very wet winter! Who knows???

Musical ear is quite common. I've had it for years along with my progressive sensorineural hearing loss. I've learned to be able to change the tune when I get tired of listening to the same thing over and over. Sounds a bit crazy, but it's real. Mine actually seems to cover the tinnitus I used to have more often.

Mine tinnitus is crickets singing ...had for a long time ..no treatment .. so sad for us tinnitus people...we will never have a treatment .

mine is "Nodding Chime" - the note is an F., happens if i shake head (which i don't do intentionally due to chronic worker's comp severe whiplash). otherwise lots of screeching, whistles, buzzing, goes soft/loud - just to name a few; also experience "phantom phone ringing". i don't wonder why i am hearing aid-resistant . . .

My tinnitus is self music, usually singing but without word, and always familiar songs— Amazing Grace, other hymns, things like Swing Low Sweet Chariot… I have no idea how my brain is producing these specific songs. Sometimes the sound is just repetition of 2 or 3 notes back and forth. Soft enough that I usually think I’m hearing choirs practicing in the distance. Sometimes oddly there is no sound at all, so no tinnitus at times.
