feeling of numbness

Posted by stefpestify @stefpestify, Feb 7, 2023

around july last year i went in for a teeth extraction there they put me under anesthesia i believe. after the procedure they said the numbness would go away and it did but only the lower left side didn’t. They later prescribed me an anti inflammatory drug. I went on with my life and just hoping with time it would heal. Yesterday I went in to talk about it and they checked me in and said I do have sensation after pinching and poking. He stated the numbness could go away after i get my brackets/braces and if it doesn’t he would refer me to a specialist. Has anyone gone through something similar? It’s not causing any pain or tingly sensation but it sure does feel different from the other side of my face. little tingles as well if i rub it

Hi there @stefpestify , welcome to Connect. Having numbness a year later must be annoying if nothing else. It sounds as if you may have some nerve damage which hopefully in time will resolve itself. I'm glad you have no pain. Did you have an oral surgeon or your dentist extract your tooth?

Wow, you had 6 total extractions? At once or spaced out?

That was quite a bit of work. Do you feel like you want to see a specialist, or wait until braces are in place like your doctor suggested?

Please look into B vitamins with your doctor as B vitamins help to heal nerves. I wish someone had told me that 17 years ago.

I think you should follow your gut. If you feel like a trip to the specialist will satisfy your concerns, then go for it. You know your body best.

Otherwise, I'm hoping you'll be fine. Commence on with getting your braces but let the orthodontist know of your preexisting symptoms since extraction.

As @bonniethompson1234 suggests, B vitamins can be beneficial for nerve regeneration. You can speak to your general practioner about B vitamins and your lasting nerve sensations after oral surgery as well

I bet you're sure to have an amazing smile by the end of it all! 😁
