Possible Polycythemia Tinnitus, Dizziness, Headache, Fatigue
Hi all,
CBC 3 months ago showed high RBC, Hemoglobin, Hematocrit, & Lymphocytes. Repeated tests came back similar, blood smear sent to pathologist was “negative”, whatever that means.
Follow up CBC last week showed levels have increased:
RBC 5.3
Hemoglobin 16.6
Hematocrit 48.5
Lymphs 4.7
I’ve had a constant headache and tinnitus for 3 months. In addition, for the past 7 days, I am dizzy, fatigued, and have difficulty concentrating. My CRNP stated she did not believe my head issues had anything to do with thick blood. At my insistence, however, she discussed with the MD who came in and told me it could be PV and referred me to a hematologist/oncologist for further tests. That appointment is not for 3 weeks.
Meanwhile, my symptoms persist. I work from home on a computer all day, but am finding it difficult to focus. I live alone. I am worried I should be doing something about these symptoms, but when I messaged the CRNP, she did not provide helpful advice, as she does not connect my symptoms with my CBC results.
I know I have no choice but to wait for the hematologist/oncologist appointment in 3 weeks. It would make me feel better if I knew these symptoms were connected to the “thick blood,” that I’m not crazy, and if there is anything I can do in the meantime to help me function.
I sympathize with all of you in your struggles, and am grateful for any insight.

I had fatigue also but I changed my job from a shift work job to just straight days helped a lot. As for thick blood I take supplements Garlic tablets, Turmeric, Vit E, and a325mg Bayer aspirin all are supposed to thin your blood. I also take Cayenne pepper capsule it is to help reduce blood clots. I had concentration issues for years I believe that was from the onset of my pv development poor sleeping habits and low O2 levels when sleeping. Praying you find answers.
