Its really interesting though I was told today I have to pay 5k , then supplement with another 5k before I can even try to apply for financial aid which is only 25% off.

I wasnt even told there was a wait at all she just wanted to know if i wanted to move ahead. Its pretty disheartening that you cant even get help until you shell out 10k and then its 25% . Pretty crappy for anyone that needs help and has an income barrier but doesnt qualify for Medicaid. Barriers to access based on income issues: discrimination and I feel like i expected way more from a facility like this.

As if that wasnt bad enough I was told only some providers would even consider Tricare select or standard but not prime and that most providers dont "deal" with Tricare insurances. Military family friendly: nope. Im a vet and a mother of 3 dependents that was a military child: horrible practice I feel Mayo restricting based on income and picking and choosing around service related insurance when dependents dont always have the money on a GI paycheck to afford private insurance. Total discrimination and makes me wonder if care is based on need or who has insurance that pays more.

We deserve better, and I was told this was better: is it?

@mindfulintentions, you might want to explore your eligibility to get access to Mayo Clinic care through the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) Community Care Network.

See more details in this article which may or may not be applicable to you: https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/mayo-clinic-expands-commitment-to-serving-veterans-by-participating-in-va-community-care-network-beginning-august-1-2020/

I want to also let you and @dlynn1210 know about the Mayo Clinic Care Network. The Mayo Clinic Care Network is a select group of independent health systems that are granted special access to Mayo Clinic's extensive knowledge and world-leading medical expertise. The Mayo Clinic Care Network helps keep care local by providing guidance and answers to many questions that might otherwise require a referral to a specialist. See the member hospitals here:
