There is a thread about this issue at the Straightdope Forum site that was started in 2004. Although it also contains folks that seem to be suffering from migraines, TMJ, neuralgia, otitis media/externa and other seemingly unrelated issues - it is where I read about the eye/head up/back stretching approach to relief.
