Still have appendix after ruptured.....need support!
On December 28 I was admitted to hospital with an appendix that had been ruptured for at least 2 wks. Received IV antibiotics for 5 days and then oral for another week. Was discharged after the 5 days and now am waiting for the time when it becomes ready to be taken out without taking parts of the intestine. . This is so weird to me, has anyone else ever been through this?

Never heard of this. But I'd make sure I had the best doctors you can find. I wish you well.
@mrsworm12 Good morning, you have certainly been through a lot! When you say "...now am waiting for the time when it becomes ready to be taken out without taking parts of the intestine. . " does that mean you are in constant contact with you doctor, monitoring the situation?
If not, you need talk to your doc and figure out how to handle things, because the infection could flare again.
This did not happen to me, but a friend of mine went through it last summer. What surprised him, and the rest of us, the most was the length of the incision when they did surgery. The surgeon told his wife it was necessary to be sure every bit of the infected area could be inspected, and any remaining evidence of infection be removed.
So, you might want to talk in advance to the surgeon about what sort of incision to expect, and how long the recovery might be. An "open" abdominal incision would obviously take longer than the tiny incisions used to remove an appendix laparoscopically, so you might need to make arrangements for help. Another surprise was having drains inserted and monitored for evidence of infection, and being on a pretty long course of strong antibiotics after surgery.
Have you had a chance yet to discuss these issues with the surgeon?

I had an experience 15 years ago where I had extreme pain in my lower stomach. I attributed that pain to being constipated as that was something I've always had to deal with. This pain although not as severe continued for about 4 months. Finally I found a doctor that would give me an MRI and look to see what was going on. The doctor after looking at the MRI asked me when I had my appendix taken out and I said I never have had it taken out. So he went on to suggest a exploratory surgery to see what was going on. He made it a vertical cut through my belly button about 7 in Long. Went in and found that my appendix had burst and had emaciated up against my cecum. He resolved the problem by taking 6 in of my cecum out. I don't know how I lived through the pain for so long after having the appendix burst but as I was saying I've had extreme pain with constipation so I just attributed to that. Anyway it was a while to get over the incision the pain of the surgery but I have been fine even with 6 in of my second cecum taken out. I have no problems and I have lived another 15 years past that so I think you will be fine but you need to have it taken out as soon as possible and yes I believe they probably have to do an incision to inspect possibly take some of your cecum come out. Anyway I hope this helps your dilemma. And I hope you get help for it very soon.
Talked with surgeon and covered all that you mentioned. CT scan next month to check to see how inflammation has gone down and then more planning with surgeon. Got it covered, just wanted to see what others' experience was like.
