@mrsworm12 Good morning, you have certainly been through a lot! When you say "...now am waiting for the time when it becomes ready to be taken out without taking parts of the intestine. . " does that mean you are in constant contact with you doctor, monitoring the situation?
If not, you need talk to your doc and figure out how to handle things, because the infection could flare again.

This did not happen to me, but a friend of mine went through it last summer. What surprised him, and the rest of us, the most was the length of the incision when they did surgery. The surgeon told his wife it was necessary to be sure every bit of the infected area could be inspected, and any remaining evidence of infection be removed.

So, you might want to talk in advance to the surgeon about what sort of incision to expect, and how long the recovery might be. An "open" abdominal incision would obviously take longer than the tiny incisions used to remove an appendix laparoscopically, so you might need to make arrangements for help. Another surprise was having drains inserted and monitored for evidence of infection, and being on a pretty long course of strong antibiotics after surgery.

Have you had a chance yet to discuss these issues with the surgeon?
Sue

Talked with surgeon and covered all that you mentioned. CT scan next month to check to see how inflammation has gone down and then more planning with surgeon. Got it covered, just wanted to see what others' experience was like.
