GFR dropp 19 points 63 to 44 in less than a year
I was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma last year and had radiation treatment in December and it went well. My cancer is stage 1 and treatable. In my labs in May 2022, I had a GFR of 63. I had labs Jan 3 this year and GFR are at 44! A 19 point drop in one year! I have a referral starting yesterday to see a Nephrologist. No appt yet. What in the world could cause such a huge drop? Anybody? I'm freaking out.

@eva1930 ~ Wow! That's quite a bit difference. I wasn't even aware that eGFR could/would change that remarkably. What did you do differently to cause the 37/53 difference?
Thank you dks! I think ti's hard for anybody to get into a routine whether having physical limitations or not. Good luck to both of us. 😉
I started walking , exercise 3/times a week, weighed my food and watched very careful what I ate,but it took me a few month’s to accomplish this,
@eva1930 ~ Congrats to you on your disciplined workouts! That's great! Could you share your exercise regime? I'm trying to get back into a routine but still struggling with what type of exercises to do & for how long. Right now, I'm walking everyday (mostly indoors) for my steps, stretching exercises, and some weight bearing exercises for strength. But I'm flummoxed as to how long I should be doing the stretching & weight bearing sessions in order to see improvement in my eGFR.
Sorry hear that. That's some wild fluctuations. Have you seen a nephrologist? I'm seeing one Feb 2. If so, what did they say?
Hang in there.
I had a ultra sound last week and have an appointment with my nephrologist
Hi. I saw the nephrologist today. He diagnosed me with ARF or AKI. Acute Kidney Failure or Acute Kidney Injury. He said that only one blood draw cannot prove CKD. And he told me that basically there is no "pre" diabetes. Diabetes or not. Anyway, I will do a urinalysis and have a sonogram done and a visit with him again after he gets the results. He said it was possible that the blood draw with the low gfr could be a result of dehydration which could have been caused by my radiation treatments. So, I'm trying to eat a low carb and low sugar diet. And trying to get exercising again.
So glad to hear you got in to see the nephrologist. Best to you as you take care of yourself, now that you have good medical help.
@jeffh So glad you were able to interface with your kidney doctor. How do you feel about what he told you in comparison to what you have read from members here?
As you recall, we usually say to look at trends in labwork versus a single result. In the case of acute kidney injury, that might come after a physical injury to the kidney area, or perhaps a sudden illness. Personally, I have had a doctor tell me to watch for prediabetes, especially as it runs in my family, so there may be a disposition towards it. But an endocrinologist or well-informed general practitioner would have more information on that.
I will be curious what your urinalysis [I assume a 24 hour collection?] and other labwork together will indicate to you and your doctor. Good luck on the low-carb/low sugar eating plan.

Thank you. I hope that you're able to get back to regular exercising.
