I need a total knee replacement but am concerned since I have extensive swelling in the left knee (surguery knee) Both legs have had the swelling since 1985 and cause me no pain or discomfort. I have had extensive treatment for the lymphedema including massages, wraps, stocking and pumps. My orthopedic surgeon in concerned about the success of the replacement and possible infection. I would like to have a professional opinion should surgery be a valid concern.
thanks

Good evening @kdavis409
Good evening and welcome to Connect. I certainly am sorry for your "surgery knee" discomfort. I am going to introduce you to one of our mentors who has lymphodema and had a TKR a couple of years ago. His name is @johnbishop. Neither John nor I are medical professionals so would not be able to give you that type of opinion about your surgery.

May you be free of suffering and the causes of suffering.
Chris

Hello @kdavis409, I would like to add my welcome to Connect along with Chris @artscaping and others. I was diagnosed with lymphedema in my legs a year a couple of years prior to needing a knee replacement for my right knee. I haven't had the extensive treatments that you have but I do wear compression socks daily. I wasn't able to put them on my right leg for about a month following my knee replacement but I was able to control the swelling with the icing and elevating.

I think I would also want a second opinion if my surgeon was worried about the success of the replacement and possible infection.
