Electrical shocks throughout my body.
Hello. I’m not sure if anyone knows what I am talking about but I am hoping that someone does because I am beginning to feel crazy. Every day, I have an electrical sensation feeling throughout my entire body. The only way I can describe it to people is that it feels like I am being shocked by a light switch throughout my entire body. It is very painful, however only lasts from around 5-20 minutes, 1-5 times a day. It’s starting to scare me because my doctor looked at me like I was crazy, and my nurses chuckled when they heard my symptoms. I am going to a neurologist but they cannot fit me in for another month. It’s very painful for me and it has started to come with a red, splotchy rash from my neck down to my legs. If anyone has any idea what this could be and what I can do to surprise the pain, I would really appreciate the advice. And also if anyone else deals with this please tell me because I really am starting to think I am crazy. Thank you!

Hello Amy,
My name is Shauna. I’m 2016 I had my first big electric shock lasting about 5 seconds from my heart around to my back. I went to ER and they guessed it was shingles without any rashes or appearances. Sent me on my way. Well for the next 2 years, more and more horrible shocks so bad I couldn’t wear any clothes on my upper torso. The doctors just laughed at me and/or told me to be quiet and stop researching and that it’s probably shingles. Well it wasn’t shingles because in 2018, my foot became so dense and numb along with leg over period of 3 days and I was hospitalized for 8 days finding out I have a very rare neurological autoimmune disorder called Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD). They found it through spinal tap, MRI with contrast, and my symptoms. Now there is testing that your doctors can do for it. I wish someone or doctors had not shut me up and laughed at me because now I’m disabled and live with so much pain everyday from chest down to toes. I’m on so much medicine including chemo. I’m only 41 and always was healthy bright star with graduate college degree. Please advocate for your husband and ask your doctors about my diagnosis and tell them to stop laughing and see someone else.
I have had electric shocks in my body for years they sometimes throw me backwards. The last one I had was on Tuesday January 10th which sent backwards on to my bed. A para medic who came to see me said had never heard of such a thing in 30 years service. I was taken to hospital who ran several tests and sent me home. A consultant I saw some years ago told me it could not happen but it does. The medical profession do not want to know things they do understand. I just have live with it. I have had this most of my life and I am now nearly 78. I am Sivad by the way.
Hi this is Sivad again in my last comment I said medical people do not like things they do understand I meant of course they do not like things they do not understand.
I have a herniated disc L4/L5 and a very large sacral Tarlov Cyst. I get the electrical shocks in that area so strongly that wherever I am when they happen, I start yelping with each one. Embarrassing.
I also get the electrical shocks, not as strong, in my toes, shooting up my legs to my knees. It's such a crazy thing.
I get electrical shocks down my right arm. They are intermittent I may not have them for a month and then I will have a dozen in an hour. Has anyone found there is anything to do for the shocks?
I too get a mild electrical shock whenever I bend forward from the waist. My chiropractor said it’s common as we age (I’m 78) and is spine related. According to him, there is no remedy.
I am having the same problem mine started in 2015 and has gotten worse as I have gotten older. I have also broke out in a rash but it's on my back shoulders, stomach and my buttocks and on my upper thigh. I itch so bad that I'll make myself bleed. It feels like the shocking symptoms are coming from my brain 🧠 😫 It starts there and goes down throughout my whole body. I have lost a tremendous amount of weight. I feel like I'm going insane. I have a doctor appointment this Tuesday and I am going to have him refer me to a neurologist.

Hi, all of you having the electrical shocks should look up Trigeminal Neuralgia. My girlfriend had them and they were awful. Hope this helps!!
@bevkei I also had an electric shock down my body from bending my neck. That was caused by central canal stenosis and bone spurs that were pushing into my spinal cord. The bone spurs filled the space and there was no fluid space left around my spinal cord at that level. There is a remedy for that if you speak with a spine surgeon. I had a wonderful neurosurgeon at Mayo who gave me my life back.
Another example is my cousin who is 80, and he had stenosis in his lumbar spine. He had a laminectomy, that essentially enlarges the spinal canal by cutting and lifting some of the bone around the spinal cord. It was not a bad surgery for him, and it is not as involved as a disc removal and spinal fusion. He took pain medication for about 2 weeks, and was up walking around right away. Spinal stenosis can also cause problems with walking and balance as well as bladder and bowel control issues. It just depends on what part of the spinal cord gets squished.
Sounds like neuropathy. There is no cure. I’m praying for you.
Please update me on your diagnosis.
