Sudden hearing loss and tinnititus

Posted by regina123 @regina123, Jan 8, 2023

Hello. I recently experienced minor hearing loss and tinnitus starting on January 1, 2023. On January 4th, I lost all of my hearing in my right ear. I am eight months pregnant with twins, so being extremely pregnant and losing my hearing in my right ear have been quite uncomfortable and stressful for me. I began steroid injections on the 5th, so I’m hoping that this will help. Has anyone had any luck with steroid injections?

I'm crossing my fingers for you! Hope those steroid injections will help. Generally, to help steroids must be started within a few days of the sudden hearing loss. It sounds like you have that advantage! Do keep us posted. And good luck with your pregnancy! Sounds as if you'll be a busy lady very soon.

I strongly recommend that you protect your hearing from extreme noise. Noise induced hearing loss is very common. Some people are more susceptible to it than others. Do you use ear protection in noisy environments?

I had Cochlear Osia surgery the end of November. After 3 weeks of healing I was fitted for the processor. Although the increased level of sound is welcome, ALL sounds are accompanied by very annoying static. I even had Cochlear exchange the processor but I am still experiencing the same static. Do I need further adjustments to be worked out between my audiologist and Cochlear’s audiologist? Is static a common complaint for the Osia implant? Or is this something my brain needs to adjust to?

Hi Joezz,
I get a bit of static from time to time with the Osia. Your audiologist should be able to minimize the noise as much as possible. I have made it a point to not focus on it and in doing so, I don't even notice if/when it happens now. I hope this helps.

I did get my high frequencies back to normal after 6 ear injections. Still have low frequency hearing loss after 7 months. My SSHL was related to a Shingles attack on left ear after a Covid vaccine. Good luck with it. It gets better. Try meditation for the stress.

Did the injections work for you?
I had sudden hearing loss in my left ear April 2023, three months after 4th covid vaccine and 6 months after my 2nd bout of covid., plus have constant loud tinnitus in that ear. The ENT I saw within 24 hours of this happening didn't even mention steroid injections, she put me on a heavy 20 day regimen of oral steroids.....which didn't restore my hearing or take care of the tinnitus. The 2nd ENT I saw 2 months later said he would have done both, but felt it was too late by then. I'm in a cross fit hearing aid set up which helps me hear on my left side but does nothing for the ringing in that ear. I've been taking a product called Cortexi for about 6 weeks that I've seen touted on several sites, but that doesn't seem to be doing anything either. Guessing that might be an expensive scam!

I believe that this is caused by the Covid injections and you need a full treatment to overcome it. Try to contact a physician who is of this mind - otherwise you will keep getting the same improper response.

I got tinnitus in R ear after a bad cold in winter 2019. It’s never changed. I use a Resound hearing aid as of last summer to help mask it but I’m basically deaf in that ear unless wearing headphones I can hear a little then . Good luck
