I was diagnosed with macular degeneration about 20 years ago. My eye surgeon and ophthalmologist both urge me to use Areds 2 or Preservision. I have used one or the other with no unpleasant side-effects. I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in July, my diet of fresh green leafy veggies has changed. I cannot tolerate roughage. The cancer has encircled the mesentery vein distressing my stomach emptying. Areds has stopped the macular degeneration growth i'm happy to say. Now I depend on them for my vision, which is maintaining without change . Vitamins for the eyes work if you can tolerate them! This is my experience. I hope my story helps someone experiencing this issue.

How can you know that it’s the AREDS that is arresting your MD and not just the natural progression of the disease? When I was first diagnosed by my doctor, who has since retired, I was terrified. He told me that, yes, I have dry MD, but the progression would be very slow and maybe when I reached my 80’s, I might not be able to see all that great, but it was highly unlikely I would go blind. I’m not sure how he “knows” that. My new ophth. monitors me closely and confirms that my MD is stable. I don’t think I can contribute that to the AREDS. I found this article that really resonates with me. https://www.cureamd.org/best-eye-vitamins-macular-degeneration/
