Hi Amy @amybray, this must be so hard for you to see your husband suffer and not finding answers. First I want you to know that if you are worried that he may take his life, you can call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (https://988lifeline.org/) to speak with a trained counsellor.

Has your husband seen a specialist, like a neurologist?

Hello Amy,

My name is Shauna. I’m 2016 I had my first big electric shock lasting about 5 seconds from my heart around to my back. I went to ER and they guessed it was shingles without any rashes or appearances. Sent me on my way. Well for the next 2 years, more and more horrible shocks so bad I couldn’t wear any clothes on my upper torso. The doctors just laughed at me and/or told me to be quiet and stop researching and that it’s probably shingles. Well it wasn’t shingles because in 2018, my foot became so dense and numb along with leg over period of 3 days and I was hospitalized for 8 days finding out I have a very rare neurological autoimmune disorder called Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD). They found it through spinal tap, MRI with contrast, and my symptoms. Now there is testing that your doctors can do for it. I wish someone or doctors had not shut me up and laughed at me because now I’m disabled and live with so much pain everyday from chest down to toes. I’m on so much medicine including chemo. I’m only 41 and always was healthy bright star with graduate college degree. Please advocate for your husband and ask your doctors about my diagnosis and tell them to stop laughing and see someone else.
