Severe scar tissue after TKR and after scar removal surgery

Posted by noethewja @noethewja, Jan 4, 2023

Reaching out if anyone has had similar experience as me and how it was handled and outcomes. Or know of specialist that has worked with case like mine. I had TKR on Jan 11, 2022. PT didn’t help as scar tissue built up with limited range of motion. Even after two manipulations (Feb and Apr 2022) scar tissue bonded back together and kept growing. Aug 9, had scar tissue removal surgery. Surgeon said scar tissue was 1 1/2 inches thick. Removed about 80%. Over past 5 months even with extensive PT scar tissue has grown back giving me very limited range of motion. Limited bending and straightening. End of Nov 2022 I discussed my case with Mayo and sent them operative reports and X-rays. Said my information would be reviewed by Ortho surgeon and someone would get back with me. Received letter that said they were experiencing appointment delays and if anything opened up they would contact me. Any feedback is welcomed.

I am experiencing the same problem. Had TKR in April. They tell me to give it a year. Have been at 115 ROM since months of PT. Will try to see a different surgeon if no improvement after a year. Just hoping. Mark

Wishing you the best Mark. I’m only bending to about 70 (that’s cold before any PT exercises) and straighten to 5 degrees.

I had tkr in 2024. And now I have scar tissue in my left knee. I don’t know how to get rid of the scar tissue? I have full range of motion but I have a tightness in the center of my knee. When I walk around I have to bend my knee and there is pain In the calf muscles are like the in the front of my left leg. I have been popping some of the muscle. There is a sharp pain in the center of my knee.
