Heavy Bleeding a Year After Lupron Cessation

8 years ago was diagnosed triple positive (Her and both Estrogen/progesterone) Breast Cancer and was put on many drugs including Lupron shots every four months and was on them for 7 years. My doctor stopped the shots last year (November) and Tamixofen. Had no period and now 45. Menstraul bleeding started up again three days ago and it is beyond heavy…with pressure in lower abdomen and back. Is this just my body reovulating after such a long time or should I be concerned and make a visit to doctors? He did say there was a possibility of it returning…but wasn’t expecting this as this is not how my cycles use to be. Anyone else have this same experience after a long treatment on this drug?

I would say get that checked out asap. I'm having a different experience that I would call way less urgent then yours and my team is snapping into action. I was 38 periods stopped with chemo (also did lupron, but triple negative, whichaybe is why my team is so insistant.). The period came back normal but now that I am 40 very irregular. My oncologist had me get with my gyno who has me scheduled for a pelvic ultrasound, a uterine ultrasound, and a uterine biopsy once my cycle lines up for her to get in there.

I have to agree with @seathink. Bleeding, especially unexpected menstrual bleeding, is something you should have investigated by your doctor and/or oncologist. @auksst @janeta @addieg may also have Lupron experiences to share.

@dsparella, did you stop Lupron just a month ago November 2022 or a year ago November 2021?

My experience with bleeding came right after my FIRST Lupron injection. I am still doing them monthly but am hoping to stop early in 2023. Right after my first injection and switching to Aromasin, I experienced menstrual bleeding, although not excessively heavy, for two straight weeks. This was in November of 2021. I have not experienced it again since. I am 54 however and considered to pretty much be post menopausal so I am not sure how much that would affect it either.
