Feedback on Linzess for Irritable Bowel-C or Chronic Constipation

Posted by sue225 @sue225, Mar 9, 2019

I have both of the above-conditions. Took Linzess, (called Constella in Canada) and got terrible stomach pain. Feeling desperate and thinking about trying it one more time. Interested in hearing what kind of experiences other people have had with linaclotide/linzess.

Hi, I'm having some success with boring ol' Milk of Magnesia in the mornings, and with spacing out a couple of low doses. Sort of experimenting. So no, never did take the Citrate. I think it's available on Amazon tho. By the way, I have a severe case of restless leg syndrome and magnesium is super helpful for it, so I'm kinda enjoying the benefits of the extra magnesium.

All good to know. Thanks so much! Joe

Did absolutely nothing for me and cost me close to $400 via Canadian online pharmacy. I learned to not fill new scrips completely. Order just a partial amount to try it out. Am using Oxy-powder. It's effective but a little rough.

What is Oxy-powder? Thanks.

Oxy- powder is a capsule of high dose magnesium oxide. Very strong colon cleanser. I use it only occasionally when I get too backed up. Google it too.

I've been taking Motegrity for one month. Not much change so far. Frustrating as you know.

I have tried everything for CIC. Everything. The only think that gets me going is Dulcolax stimulant laxative and/or Magnesium Citrate. I can live with the constipation for 5 days and then need something, and this is what I turn to.

Can I do this long term? Take these stimulants once every 5 to 7 days? Not everyday, just once every 5 to 7 days.

Thanks in advance for any help.'

Thank you. Is it ok to take this every 5 to 7 days if nothing else works? I have terrible CIC and only stimulants will work. No fun.

I tried Linzess for a couple weeks, but I couldn't leave the house! It didn't do anything the first few days, and then after that gave me entirely unpredictable loose BMs on about 20 seconds notice. My GI doc switched me to Trulance (also expensive) and that worked for about a year--I had about 2 hours of gurgling and cramping as advance notice to be near a toilet. Now I take good old Miralax once or twice a day.
My chronic constipation problem is caused by slow transit. It's not that I don't have BMs without help, but that even though I may have 6 or more in a day they are too small to keep up.

I took Linzess for a year. The higher dose was too high! Finally was changed to 72 milligrams. I had to be careful not to take it on a day I was going out to be sure I wasn't going to have a problem. If it worked well, I skipped a day. Linzess stopped working for me.
I have chronic constipation with a pelvic floor diagnosis. That was all in Michigan.

I am now in Wisconsin at Mayo. I cannot get in to a gastroenterologist until late January..

In the meantime, miralax, stool softeners, ducolax and senakot not helpful. I did purchase an organic orange psyllium powder online which is helpful. I take it with water and crystal light, which helps the taste.

I've not taken Trulance.

I had severe constipation with Gastroparesis. I had every medication mentioned. They all gave severe cramps that sometimes lasted all day no matter how many time I had a movement. I finally stopped all of them.
I use 1 cup Oat Bran (not oat meal) 1 cup applesauce and 3/4 cup of prune juice. Mix, keep in bowl in frig and take 2 tablespoons before bed with small amount of Milk of Mag Saline. I have now had Pyloroplasty and have no pain and am slowly adding new foods. This has been like a miracle for me after 4 years of cramping!!
