Has anyone had a tight band feeling after total knee replacement?
I am 8 weeks post TKR and have had this very tight band around my knee since week one. My Dr at 6 wks says it is normal and will go away. Has anyone else had this and did it go away and when?

Is it normal to be able to feel your prosthesis move when you put your hand on the side of the knee and when you bend the knee 8 months post op TKR
You might feel a little tapping from the patellar prosthesis, but not movement. I don't think the tibial or femoral prosthesis should be moving at all.
You might be feeling your patella moving when you bend your knee. I think that's normal.
Hello, I am 2.5 years out from a TKR. About 1.5 years ago I thought that I strained my "new" knee... Well It has not gotten any better and now I am hobbling around as bad as prior to the surgery. My problem is that I am working in the United Kingdom and do not have any real medical care here. Military doctors will not see me because I am a civilian even though I am retired military and the NHS here is ... well it is what it is. Has anyone used any type of brace besides the elastic ones? I talked to one of those online doctors and he suggested a Donjoy FullForce knee brace. Any help would be really great. Plus I will not be able to have anything done to fix/help my knee for another year and a half. That is when I will be back in the States for good.
Donjon is a heavy-duty brace and it's pricey. There are other braces that have hard plastic on either side of the knee and are a lot less expensive. These would provide more stability than just a sleeve and cost less than a Donjoy. Maybe try that out first.
What are your symptoms? I'm a little surprised you're having problems this long after a TKR, but hey, it happens. Sorry you're stuck for a while. Look for one of these braces with metal or plastic on either side of the knee, and all the best!

I originally thought I had just strained it, but it has never gotten any better. I have an almost constant ache in the knee area. It feels like the kneecap wants to flip over when I walk. Like the bottom want to become the top. Sometimes I have about a dime or nickel size spot on the outside of the knee at the center of the joint that feels like a burning rod is being inserted there.
Ever since the doctor replaced my knee it feels like he misaligned the joint. When I point my toes straight out my mind thinks they are pointed at my left foot... oh well I guess it is just life. It would just be so nice to walk without limping and be able to walk long distances again would really be nice too!!
Hi padre,
Have you had your knee checked out by another surgeon? To feel what you describe after all this time since the TKR is unusual. It's possible the one or more of the prosthesis were not placed correctly - sounds like the patella.
Have you had these systems since the surgery or are they recent? Either way I'd get it checked out. All the best friend.

Hello, I am at week 3. I have a tight band feeling around my knee too, especially when walking. I had a sleepy quad that did not start firing for 10 days after surgery. My range sucks because of it too. So stiff. I have not been able to take any pain meds except tramadol the first week and been on Tylenol since. The only relief I get from the tightness is in the shower, hot water! I can’t wait to get in a hot tub of water! Any suggestions for relief….
Yes, same feeling of tightness band. Hot water is only relief I get. But as soon as I walk the band is there again.
I am 14 weeks post op
TNR and have that tight band feeling but have attribute it to the Bakers cyst behind my knee which is apparently quite common
I have the same tight band feeling mainly after walking but have been told that it is due to a Baker’s cyst that I have behind my knee. The surgeon said he won’t drain the cyst now because it will just fill up again due to surgical inflammation. Also said in 75% of people the cysts eventually drain away. I find this very discouraging because all I want to do is walk without pain
