Anal fissure: What helps it heal?
Hey-wondering if anyone has developed an anal fissure during chemotherapy? What helped it heal? Any advice as it is very painful!

Yes I had two one inch rectal fissures but not from chemo mine was from chronic constipation. Mine happened a long time ago but they flare up often as a matter of fact I’m in a flare now. I use Anucort HC supporters. I think mine are 25 mg. Also there is a rectal ointment put out by a proctologist here in OK it has to be compounded. The doctors name is Neil Woodward.
Thanks for recommending a colorectal dr - but all I found were "colorectal surgeons." The thing is that I'm doing everything I can to avoid surgery including botox. With my history I think iI should avoid anything like that. I'll try calling to find out what they have to offer that isn't invasive. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised?
(not on chemo)
So helpful, thanks so so much! Where is Neil Woodward? I'm in NJ. Thanks.
Hi again! At first I was afraid of a colorectal surgeon thinking they'd only offer surgery - but - Thanks to your advice I checked around and found a colorectal surgeon who definitely can treat fissures in ways that avoid surgery if I wish. And I have an appointment TOMORROW!!!
Really really thanks!
Mary
Dr’ Neil Woodward is in Oklahoma City, OK. I think he passed away but your doctor can write a script maybe and it can be filled at Piedmont Pharmacy in OK. It’s an ointment so no opioids to deal with. Good luck.
Thanks!
I'm in NJ, so I'm still looking for someone near me.

Okay so I've decided to have surgery after all. I believe this is the best decision for me. Botox + cauterization of the fissure. It's scheduled for next week so I'm looking forward to it/not looking forward to it (if you know what I mean!) Thanks everyone for such great info.
My fissures have been cauterized and it helped for a very short time. A fiend of mine had her doctor put sutures in her fissure and she never had any more problems. Not my luck mine started in 1990 and I have suffered with them since. Awful.
Thanks for commenting. I think his plan is to cauterize, but he could change his mind once he's getting a closer look at it. I'll ask him about it.
I hear ya. Sorry you've had less success. bummer.
p.s. Did you get Botox in addition to the cauterization?
