Does anyone find that a type of shoe helps your foot neuropathy?

Posted by lorirenee1 @lorirenee1, Mar 25, 2019

I am on a constant quest for shoes that don't kill my feet due to the neuropathy. I find that Spencos and Wolky shoes seem the best. Are there any other suggestions? Shoes can be just crippling for me. Horrid.

My podiatrist says, sketchers are way too soft for walking.
So I discovered and love On Cloud5. Absolutely love these, comes with fast and normal laces too.
Now I can't go anywhere in my sketchers, too soft, not enough support.

Skechers, they have come a long way over the years. Just like most they have low end shoes, but also provide a much nicer well build shoe selection as well. The memory foam is helpful and now I prefer wider fit. Although I really do not have a wide foot, the wide fit helps ease the burning and pain. Skechers are my choice.

Cloud5 is a great shoe... To be honest, I really believe the issue here is, the more you spend the better the shoe. Both of these companies have a huge selection, with all types of support, from soft to a firm fit. With Sketchers just from the variety of shoes your selection most likely; was, way to soft for your needs. I'm a competitive runner and the Skechers I use are fantastic with tremendous support, comfort, light and built very well. Cloud5 is a Switzerland company and Sketchers is an American company. Unfortunately, both companies outsource their manufacturing to horrible, abusive, deadly slave labor in China and Vietnam and that's a total bummer! Since I'm typing guess I will also vent-out, that; Neuropathy totally SUCKS! It's so frustrating that the medical knowledge for isolating and treatment is still so archaic almost nonexistent. I've been all over the country for the past three plus years to most of the top clinics searching for anything, even out of the box scenarios that could help, even a little. What I found is, professionals especially since COVID will not even think of working out-side of the box and the reality is they have no tools or support that provide them an insensitive to it. Therefore, if a Neuropathy-patient does not have diabetes they most likely will have not only zero results in finding any type of path for life improvement, but many of us will start wondering if Neuropathy is some type of mental-illness the doctors are hiding from the patient. Thats being a little sarcastic, but I can say in my weakest moments that hasn't crossed my mind. I will conclude by saying since my symptoms started any successful life improvement has been found in simple google search's and a few medical podcast.

What type /brand of jell inserts do you use? I have the Bioni-8 Hokas and I am pleased with them.

I'm not yet certain if I have neuropathy, but my feet are partially numb and when I got Covid I had gout in left big toe. No usual reason for gout as my diet is low in purines and the usual culprits. Who knows? I was getting terrible cramps affecting the sciatic nerve until I bought a shoe brand named Altra in a half size larger than normal. Apparently these shoes are completely flat without the usual rise in the heel. What a difference as it stands to reason that if most shoes have a gentle rise towards the heel, then wouldn't that shorten the achilles tendon? No more cramps and no more back pain. Have had the gout attack twice, but linked it to not drinking enough water? The attack migrated to the toe next to the big toe and I drank a glass of water and instantly the pain was gone? Any suggestions on where this might go? Thank you.

I wear Brooks sneakers or the new Cloudswift 1/2 size larger. The footbed’s are wide and great support for arches. Amazing!! I also use Zoe toe cushions for problem toes. Great walking in most shoes now. Be well

For me, I wear good soft, lightweight, athletic shoes that are a bit wider than I normally need. It seems to not mash my feet. I also make sure to use the Voltaren gel before I put on my shoes. I also need to wear socks that will help keep my feet warm.

I would add this group to the list of where to find life improvement ideas. There’s so much real life experience here that doctors without neuropathy cannot understand. While there’s no one-size-fits-all to our mysterious disease, there’s been so much help and advice in identifying snake oil salesmen and sharing solutions that no doctor certainly ever gave. Btw, Skechers for me too, I wish they’d last longer though. But I need soft, I’m the type that walking barefoot is painful for me, realizing the other half of us find walking barefoot is most comfortable them. Big puzzle…
