Has anyone heard of Kratom or tried it?

Doing a search with the word Kratom came up 0

Has anyone heard of KRATOM or better yet tried it?

I purchased a bottle of it about a year ago but after reading the words of people who do not believe in nonFDA approved medication it scared me.

Recently I watched a documentary about it that changed my mind.

There was only 24 pills so now I’m going to buy another bottle.

I think a bigger sample size is needed to know for sure about its effectiveness.

If anyone else has tried it I’d like to know

- Kratom for PN pain in feet?: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/kratom-for-pn-pain-in-feet/

Kratom is an unregulated substance, so I consulted a Mayo Clinic pharmacist on the posts. She offered the following information.

|Kratom is a natural product but it does have significant risks and side effects. Because of these risks the FDA banned import of Kratom in August 2016 and issued a notice of intent to classify 2 chemicals in Kratom as Schedule 1 drugs (the same category as heroin). There are no FDA-approved uses for kratom, and the agency has received concerning reports about the safety of kratom. FDA is actively evaluating all available scientific information on this issue. (2019) https://www.fda.gov/news-events/public-health-focus/fda-and-kratom

Kratom can cause dependence and withdrawal symptoms including aggression, anxiety and other negative psychiatric effects, muscle aches, spasms, tremors, insomnia, fever and upset stomach. It can also cause dangerous slowed breathing and seizures. It can worsen psychiatric disease and may increase the risk of suicide. Kratom can impair liver function. Kratom interacts with other herbal medications including Jimson Weed. It interacts with sedating medications. It has the potential for many other drug interactions because of the way it is metabolized."

I've used kratom for 7 years. I use kratom for chronic pain. I was hit by a car at 8 years old. Kratom has been a Godsend and I wish that I knew about kratom years ago.
Plain leaf kratom powder is a tea that is drank as a beverage ☕️
Kratom taste bitter and making tea instead of using capsules is best.
Kratom is just a leaf 🍃 ground unto a powder for tea.

I’m replying here without reading each post mostly because my vision has been getting bad again.

Tomorrow I’m do to have yag laser surgery on two eyes..

Mentally, stress is resulting in problems with every issue.

The day before Thanksgiving I got the flu shot. And hour or so after that it felt like my temp was skyrocketeing . I got a gallon of water a qt of limeade Tylenol a basin paper towels regular towel quickly hooked up an electric blanket and jump under the covers shivering teeth chattering fetal position sweating like a pig. My eye were on fire and body aches all over but especially in my neck. I couldn’t see the thermometer but electronic it saves the last temp and it chirps when it reaches its high point.

Two days later I read 105.5 I had to change the bedding twice soaking thru the mattress pad. After the second change I slept on the futon and aired the mattress.

No one in my development checked on me. No one ever dose.

I think that it wasn’t a reaction I probably got the flu plus the shot.

More tests are being done but sadly, I really don’t think that doctors listen very well to details.

I think that I asked if Mayo had one of those clinics for unusual illnesses.

I need to relearn how to find answers to my questions.

I really want to read everyone’s replies and thoughts.

Thank you all for being here for us all.

TY NMM,

I’m very interested in reading EVERY REPLY.

I noticed a lot people mention the non approval from FDA.

How much does FDA APPROVAL MATTER TO THOSE OF YOU WHO READ THIS ?

I would also like to hear what YOU THINK IT MEANS to have the seal of approval.

I have a theory about the meaning of approval by a GOV AGENCY. Isn’t it possible that the approval is a false sense of 1 being SAFE 2 of working 3 of making having THESE WARNINGS: but how much studying is done?

@stuckonu Kratom has been discussed here in the past. There are many reasons why it is not FDA approved, not least among them that as an unregulated substance, usually imported and with no standardized testing, the customer has no idea what they are buying in terms of strength or purity.

Here is the latest opinion from Mayo Clinic with many references to other studies and sources:

Although it is technically legal in the US, due to concerns about addiction and abuse many states are taking steps to ban or regulate Kratom.

TY Sue, I think that thinking about purposes for approval and regulations give most of us a sense of a QUALIFIED HIGHER POWER doing the best job that THEY can do, but the questions that need to be considered are in my opinion different for each drug being evaluated.
While skimming replies earlier today I read one person posing a question about CAFFEINE and I believe the same person named a few other obvious questions that if nothing else cause some ( me ) to think about all aspects of weighing/measuring/considering what counts and how to agree on what and how to measure things.

Fentanyl is FDA APPROVED! If we do a comprehensive study of ( name a dozen medications ) what are the processes procedures, methods, and policies that goes into the final assessment?

If the seal of approval is all that matter for us to feel confident taking a medication doesn’t the placebo affect need to be considered as, at least a possible booster to the effectiveness of the drug on its own?

I purchased capsules then read pages about it so FEAR came over me and I let it sit unopened for a year. Then I watched a documentary about Kratom with live demonstrations. My fear subsided and I tried it and was VERY PLEASED with the results.

One of the most interesting aspects of the leaves is that it possesses both a pain suppressant and a stimulant affect in smaller doses

PS I cut back on the # of oxy that I’ve been on for years!

Elderberry is a natural antiviral. I can be used to keep flu cases mild. We used it for Covid before there were vaccines and it kept all cases mild. This business uses organic elderberry and it comes in sizes like 4 oz for a sample all the way up to 32oz. I think it may be a good solution for you.

My s/o and I have used it for awhile til here recently. He swore by it. Helped him to cut down on the presc pain meds he was taking. I couldn’t get used to taking it in a regular basis and didn’t see a big enough difference to make a switch. It did help some with an overall feeling of contentment. Nothing strong enough to make you feel lethargic or anything. We recently just quit messing with it for personal reasons nothing to do with the product itself. Couldn’t hurt for you ti try it and if it helps you great if not nothing lost. Good luck to you.

I just bought the Red Kratom powder out of desperation for pain relief. I showed it to my functional nurse practitioner and she said not to use it every day due to the fact it’s addictive.

Is it helping with pain? I have been wanting to try it but don’t know what to get or dosing or anything. Haven’t found anyone who uses it for some insight and direction. I need help to know what to get and how much to begin dosing with.
