Granny Panties

@pinkpam "Granny Panties" indeed! You made me giggle - it never crossed my mind to have different underwear for any hip surgery (I had 5). I did appreciate loose knit pants with a drawstring waist for lying around, but made no other adjustments to clothing.
If you are in a chilly area and wear socks, a device for putting them on at first is great - I got one from PT before I left the hospital.
If you don't already have one, a shower bench that fits your tub or shower makes life a lot easier for a few weeks. And a sturdy, non-rolling chair with arms for sitting at the table or desk. The arms make it so easy to get up & down safely.
And ICE is your friend - some lovely large ice bags to be changed out, or a cryo-cuff - I iced almost full-time at first, and that minimized my need for pain meds.

My two cents: I am four weeks post op anterior robotic hip replacement. I suggest you buy some Depends for nighttime. Because of the surgery the pelvic muscles aren’t “strong” and I had accidents before I made it to bathroom. No one mentioned about the lack of ability to “hold” yourself. Also, make sure you do your ankle pumps and “butt squeezing” exercises because they helped me get back to “normal”. I must add that now I am ok and do not have to rely on the Depends. I am so glad you asked this question because I wanted to get this information out to anyone that may need it. Good luck with your surgery and I hope this info helped.

I tried grannies, but I finally ended up going without panties for a while except to appointments. I didn’t have to worry about getting them on and I didn’t like the bunching up. Less laundry too!

I had double hip replacement in 2018, yesterday I tweaked my left hip somehow and now it hurts very bad to put weight on it, I have to test it like 3 times before moving it and the pain is horrible. All day and now starting out again this morning. I have heard they can loosen, should I go to hospital?

It might be a muscle or ligament pink. I'd ice it all day, on and off each 20 minutes, and see if it improves at all tomorrow. If it isn't improving, then I'd go in for an X-ray.

It's hard to dislodge an implant in the hip or knee, but nit impossible. I have a hunch you pulled a muscle or ligament around the knee. Again, take it easy and keep the ice on. Aspirin or ibuprofen or alive might help as well with pain and inflammation. I wouldn't put heat on it.

I did not consider the "granny panty" situation and ended up wearing my husband's boxer briefs for the first few days after surgery. (My surgery was by the anterior method and my regular underwear hurt the incision in the crease of my leg.)

It is really difficult to maneuver your leg into anything for the first while. I bought several t-shirt dresses and did not wear panties. You will need a “pincher/grabber that will greatly help negotiating your foot into underwear and I totally agree with another commenter- get diapers for nighttime. It’s difficult to carefully get out of bed and get to the bathroom in time.
I had a lot of scar pain wearing pants once I could and the larger coverage the grannies offered really helped.
