Anyone decide not to do reconstruction after getting the expander in?
Has anyone decided to not go through with reconstruction after having the expander in and getting 4 injections. I also had 2 surgeries that they did not get it all. DCIS and then 3 one got a Mastectomy and was told she would have not gotten it all if I didn't do Mastectomy

That’s good hear ! You’re right I just want to move on and be healthy.
***Perfect line…. “My gut feeling was that if I could look like myself with prosthesis, I could be fine with that decision and I am”.
At this point I wish it was over. Thank you again. Be well.
Had HER2 negative, estrogen and progesterone positive. Diagnosed in August at the ultrasound and later biopsy.
Unilateral mastectomy on November 14th, Goldilocks Aesthetic flat closure to avoid concavity. I didn't like the idea of having any plastic silicone in my body. Diep Flap surgery seemed too complicated to me.
Unfortunately the plastic surgeons don't mention Aesthetic flat closure as a option. Just plastic implants and diep flap reconstructions. Luckily there are groups of women who talk about it.
Please see this photo with the aesthetic flat surgery.
I had diep flap, my own fat made into breast. So glad that I don't have a foreign body in my chest. Texture is same as untouched breast. Reconstruction should be free. Why are you paying?
With DIEP flap, what is the sensitivity of the breast … internal and external?? Or is there numbness of the breast? Thank you
I GUESS there is numbness but, the fat inside seems like a real breast.
I look great, and all the fat take from my belly is certainly an improvement.
Happy for you 🌸
@colson21 I am
considering removing my expander. Had mastectomy plus tissue expansion 3 wks ago, now regretting decision and wondering what can be done if I want it out. What did you decide/learn?
Hi @colson21, my wife has gone through a couple surgeries with bad results after having the expanders put in. One expander is already out. She said enough! and the other one is coming out in a couple of weeks. She's going to stay flat with prosthetics. It's clear she feels better now. I hope that her experience provides you a little help, and best wishes for you.
After a couple of unsuccessful tries with an expander and implant I opted to forgo the implant and use a prosthesis. My initial thought was why didn't anyone tell me about this option to begin with. The prosthesis is comfortable and I have been happy with it for 11 years. They make different styles for swimming and exercise, I do both and wouldn't consider trying for another implant. Of course if the reconstruction had been comfortable and successful the 1st time around I might feel differently. Good luck!
