Chronic Constipation and Miralax (or Restoralax in Canada) Side Effect

Does anyone have intolerable side effects from Miralax? E.g. severe bloating and cramping. (The opposite of its advertising). Even one dose. So many people seem to be able to use this laxative on a long term basis problem-free. Interested to hear from those with miralax issues. I do have IBS.

I gave up Miralax when I started eating 6 prunes a day for my bone health. I eat two 3x a day. I don't know if they are helping bones but I no longer suffer from painful constipation.

I use 4 ounces of warm, prune juice every night and if I’m especially constipated up to 8 ounces. It acts like an osmotic laxative, just like MiraLAX. MiraLAX cause throat tightness for me which has been reported side effects/allergy. Glad you’re feeling better!

I recently started Rx Motegrity and it seems to be working. It's only been a week, so needs more time. Linzess, Miralax and other osmotic did nothing for me. FWIW.

You might also want to try Poop like a Champion cereal. Available on line. Very pricey but effective!

Hi all, I take 4oz. of Miramax daily and 2 or 3 prunes and I do not have any side effects. What works for one person doesn't always work for another. It's just a game of try and try again until you have what works for you. Good luck.

Thanks Jenny. I did check. So far none of the common side effects like headache have happened. I take an anti-depressant and haven't had any problems with worsening depression or thoughts of suicide, which are also side effects. So far, so good.

But it's always good to check side effects, especially for a drug like Motegrity. Thank you for caring.

It took a few days. I’ve got the 2mg but that started working a lot too we’ll so I cut them in half now.
