Thyroid papillary carcinoma, breast cancer, neck lymph node cancer

Posted by vstormy @vstormy, Jun 8, 2022

I started with thyroidectomy for papillary carcinoma with I 131 radiation, later developed breast cancer triple negative, which supposedly was cancer free after surgeries. Since the breast cancer that has been 11 years ago. I now developed a nodule in my neck between the carotid artery and jugular vein 1 cm which is papillary carcinoma oncolytic variant. I have had two different opinions on how to take care of this. First surgical which they reply can be very dangerous, second alcohol ablation therapy. Does anyone know of any other therapies that could help and who would be the best doctor to work with. Thanks

@vstormy, if I read your post correctly, after having papillary carcinoma, followed by triple negative breast cancer, you now found a nodule that is oncocytic classic variant papillary thyroid carcinoma.

Is this the same variant as the original diagnosis? In other words, is this a recurrence or a new primary? Have you considered a third opinion to help make your treatment choice?

I can't recall the details from my thyroid cancer because I wasn't given much explanation and I was told I had to have my thyroid removed. I wasn't given any treatment choice. With the breast cancer, I had lump removal, was misdiagnosed, went to an oncologist who removed more margin and did a lymph node removal to verify that the cancer did not involve the lymph nodes. The readiation burned my skin badly so I had three days relief and treatment before they continued the radiation.
I was diagnosed with a paralyzed vocal chord 18 months after surgery on the thyroid and they said it was too late to rehab my vocal chord with therapy. They offered more sugery. I declined. The vocal sound has returned somewhat after many years, but doesn't have a pleasant voice sound. I can't rejoin the choir to sing. I don't worry about more cancer at my age. I eat an excellent anti-cancer diet and get what exercise I can manage.

In Ohio we go to The James at The Ohio State University as it is famous for its cancer research and treatment.
My son is going there now for cancer treatment. My friend's husband is also having treatment at The James.
Cleveland Clinic has a national reputation for treatment at Cleveland, Ohio and I trust their reports on a number of health issues. Mayo Clinic is recommended if you are able to travel there for treatment. M.D. Anderson is famous for their cutting edge treatments in brain tumors which are cancerous. My relative went there for special treatment and her husband received training to administer the IV's for horse urine 24-hour IV. She lived for a year longer than predicted and went back to The James in the end. She was only 35. Proper diet is essential for avoiding cancer and healing those that occur. That's all I know about the matter, so I do my best at home.

I just found out after requesting my medical records that I have papillary carcinoma oncocytic /hurthle variant. How do I have all 3? doesn't make sense to me and I have been trying to ask the docs at Cancer treatment centers of America but don't get an answer. Also, found out that my Level 5 in my neck that has been followed for 5 years for suspicious nodule was supposedly biopsied and found to have the above cancer, now recently I asked them to review the FNA and it was found they went into level 4 instead of level 5. I questioned this whether I have two cancers then and they tell me that the nodules are so close but they believe it is only one cancer in level 4. I am not a medical professional but this doesn't make sense to me. And this is my third medical opinion. Anyone have an idea about this? Thanks

Hi, I had a thyroidectomy last May and the result of the biopsy is HURTHLE CELL CARCINOMA. I had a radioactive iodine treatment. Every 3 months I have T3 T4 , TSH, Thyroglobulin tests. My last result for the Tg is already below zero which means i think a cancer free marker. I am worried of metastasis...

Regarding your paralyzed vocal chord…..you might want to go to an ENT and ask if you might benefit from Botox injections into your vocal chord. From what I understand, they inject the Botox into the paralyzed vocal chord so it plumbs it up; so when you speak the other vocal chord can meet it instead of leaving an opening. I seem to recall reading about other medications used to inject paralyzed vocal chords too (instead of Botox). It might help your voice and enable you to be able to sing again. Good Luck!

I had papillary carcinoma 50 years ago at the age of 12. 3 surgeries, radiation and radioactive iodine later I am still here. However, the amount of radiation and dissection of my neck has left me with very little muscle to hold up my head. This causes considerable pain now. My radiation field has also caused extreme narrowing of arteries in my neck and subclavian. My left vertebral artery is completed occluded and the right has a stent. My subclavian has a stent and we have done angioplasty. I just had my annual QMRA scan to gauge the flow in my carotid artery. Has anyone else history of radiation therapy at a young age and the effects later in life?
