Dental work while on Reclast

I’ve had my tooth pulled also. The oral surgeon doesn’t know if he should do an implant because of my taking an Evenity injection. He is concerned about osteonecrosis.

I'm thinking that maybe a bridge would work instead of an implant. I was supposed to have a reclast infusion but researching has made me think twice.
They say the % of necrosis is low, but I tend not to win on stuff like this.
Right now I'm jammed up with a spinal cord stimulator trial TOMORROW.

Hi @hlp123 It’s been several months since your extraction. I hope everything is going well for you and the healing is complete! How’s the progress on your next step in dental treatment? What did you decide for replacement teeth?

Thank you so very much for checking in on me. How very kind of you to continue to be involved with my journey after you have already given me so much guidance and valuable information !!!!
I have place my dental situation on hold. I believe that the extraction was successful and that the healing is complete. I have not returned to have it checked because the oral surgeon said that I did not need to return unless I had a problem At some point I plan to contact the Denture specialist and follow his plan.
I have been dealing with sever shoulder joint and arm muscle pain and increasing difficulty with mobility. I have been advised to have my shoulders replaced. I am also struggling with whether or not to continue with Reclast since my first infusion was in March of 2022. My endocrinologist says that I must stay on a Biphosphonate. I am struggling with what is the best
plan. I am going to receive my second vaccine of Shringrix tomorrow and then I can check off that box !

Good morning, Holly. It’s really encouraging to hear you’re doing so well with the healing around the extraction. And waiting for replacements is just fine. In fact, the bone will have more opportunity to fill in and remodel itself there.
But, aw, I’m really sad to hear you’re in so much pain with your arms and shoulders…and not being able to get around as easily with your arthritis. Are you able to walk around outside to get some fresh air and sunshine?

I really don’t have experience in taking osteoporosis medications but I do know there are different products more suitable to each patient, depending on their health, the reason for their osteoporosis and other medications they’re taking. So make sure you talk this over with your endocrinologist to help make the right decision.

I’m hoping the shoulder surgery brings you some much needed relief! Again, not my area of experience other than having a friend who had her shoulder replaced. It was a game changer for her! Uncomfortable initially, of course, but it made such a huge improvement in her life with being able to use her dominant arm again! So I certainly wish the same results for you.

I hope this message gets through to you. I am not sure how to contact you. But I wanted to message you since it has been such a long time since we were in contact, and I Think about you all the time and how very grateful I am for all of the help and invaluable knowledge that you shared with me when I was having a tooth extracted while on Reclast. I promised to give you an up-date ! I am so sorry that I have not done that. I have been dealing entirely with my severe osteoarthritis and increasingly severe COPD. I have not have any dental work done since you helped me navigate the extraction of my tooth that broke off at the gum. I am managing with the remaining teeth. I just cut everything into very small pieces, and eat slowly. At present I am dealing with an orthopedic surgeon for my shoulders and a pulmonologist for my COPD. I hope at some point to return to dealing with my dental situation. You were so very kind and helpful to me. I want you to know how much I appreciate you !!!!!

It’s my pleasure to be able to help you out and I’m sorry that your extraction has taken a back seat to some other medical things going on…hopefully just a short set back. It would be nice for you to have a full set of teeth so you don’t have to do all that teeny cutting!

I’m so sorry you’re having to delay your dental work with all these side issues! Wow, when it rains it pours, huh?!
Will you be having surgery for your shoulders…both shoulders? What type of surgery do you need?

My mum had COPD and days like today when there’s smoke in the air were so hard on her. The air quality where I live in Wisconsin has been really impacted by the wildfires in Canada. Do you think this has anything to do with your COPD condition increasing?

I'm sending a big hug right back to you ! Thank you, for responding and for your thoughtful comments ! I do feel overwhelmed most of the time with dealing with my increasingly painful osteoarthritis and COPD. I am trying to address one issue at a time. I call it "Checking off each box" that I can and then move on to the next. I am grateful that I can, for the most part take care of myself. It is a real challenge that we live in a Colonial and the stairs are very difficult for me. We should have addressed "down sizing" years ago. I have an intolerance to steroids. I am very sensitive to all medications. My bp elevates to 220/130 for days. Even with medication. I can tolerate Tylenol. For now, the orthopedic surgeon that I saw on Wednesday has given me guidance as to what I need to do to find out if I qualify for shoulder replacement. This involves many tests and appointments, so it will be center stage for a while. However, I did have a successful yearly eye exam last week and I plan to have my remaining teeth cleaned soon. The denture specialist was not very positive about me having "a stable upper arch". You see, I did use your notes about questions I should ask the dentist. They were very helpful ! He is thinking about whether or not dentures would be successful. He promised to call me when he figured it out. He has not called me. So I will see him in person soon and ask what he thinks. Thank you, again for all of your support and expertise. It is such a comfort to know you are willing to help me! I will keep you posted.
