Hi, I am now 32 years old and as a teenager I had this daily for a few years. The first few times I inhaled deeply upon waking up would be very painful, diffuse pain all over my rib cage area, and then the pain would abate with subsequent inhalations.

I think it may have been costochindritis. I found only a single case study in the medical literature of confirmed costochindritis that the patient experienced for about 15 minutes every morning, but at leas that shows it is possible, if not common, for costochindritis to happen with this pattern.
