Antiphospholipid Syndrome and Covid

Posted by libbyh @libbyh, Nov 18, 2022

Several years ago I was diagnosed with Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS) and have been treated successfully by taking blood thinners -Coumadin in the beginning, currently on Xarelto. I am 62 years old, healthy and active- at least I was until Covid put a stop to my normal life.
I got Covid-19 over four months ago and am still struggling with extreme muscle fatigue. On some days it is so debilitating that even normal daily tasks are difficult. Is there any evidence of a connection between APS and long Covid?

Welcome @libbyh, you are not alone. I'm tagging @elizabeth513 on this discussion. She describes getting COVID last year and she also has Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS).

Thank you, Colleen.
I live in the Albuquerque, NM area and am not sure there is a post-Covid care clinic near me. How would I find one?

Hello, I believe we have a very similar situation going on here. I had Covid twice - once before the vaccine October 2020 and again and August 2022 after vaccination. Just this week after year and a half, I got diagnosed with APS. I was hospitalized in early 2023 with Unprovoked pulmonary embolism in both lungs. Afterwards I was treated through Cleveland clinic and a great hematologist, but no one will make the connection between this and Covid. They are keeping me on Eliquis for the remainder of my life. And I just turned 64 years old and in good shape and stay active. I feel pretty good, but as you had mentioned, the fatigue can be pretty overwhelming at times and I just push through since I still work full-time outside my home. Glad I found this site and best of luck to everyone.
