Hello all, i am asking in a eyes wide open but i dont have a clue kind of way.. i started a relationship with a pretty woman and she complained of pains in her abdomen area. Subsequently she was later told she had pelvic inflammation and from what i have read its is usually caused by gonorrhea and/or chlamydia. She said she thought the Dr. Told her chlamydia was what she had but has since denied it. Is there any other ways to get PID without having sex, and would it be rare to get it that way? I love her but hard to hold onto "benefit of the doubt"aangle... please help !!

I don't have specific details, but some doctors would. I think it's so odd that we have such a drive to be intimate with another and yet we can contract disease from it. Just seems like a mean trick played by the creator of all of this. Same with food. Boy, that steak sure tastes good but now my arteries are clogged and I may stroke! Good luck with those passions.

@guss- Good morning and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by a bacteria called chlamydia trachomatis. Usually, it doesn't cause any symptoms and can be easily treated with antibiotics. However, if it isn't treated early it can spread to other parts of your body and lead to long-term health problems.

I can only imagine how you must feel. If I were you I would ask to see the lab reports and let the facts speak for themselves. It doesn't sound as if you have known her for a long time and it might be best to wait until you have weighed all the facts before you proceed with any more intimacy.

I hope that you have protected yourself, too. Make sure that you are tested if there is any doubt.
As far as loving someone goes you have to ask yourself how important honesty is between two people.

I wish you well. Do you have a doctor with who you are comfortable and can discuss this openly?

@guss I had PID a while ago. In my case they said they did not find an origin. I had not SIDs. What I have come to believe is that the IUD I had at the time caused it somehow. It happened about the same time as I found out I had developed toxic shock syndrome. PID stands for Pelvic Inflammatory Disease. All that tells you for sure is that you have a, probably repetitive, inflammation in your pelvis. In a woman there are many sources for inflammation in the pelvis and an SID is only one. You might find it helpful to read up on PID and women's gynecological issues.
