i can understand your fear-i went for pet scan yesterday and my results at 430pm was that my esophageal cancer is at stage 2-so it did not spread from tumor to any other organs-i start chemo (once a week) on 11/23/2023 and i start radiation (5 times a week) on 11/21 FOR SIX WEEKS UNTIL 1/3/2023...2 to 4 weeks later i have a 7 hr surgery to remove tumor...oncologist is confident of a 50 to 70% chance of curing-THERE IS A PLAN-that makes the fear less overwhelming-my job is to stay active (walk, workout, ect), get 90 grams of protein a day, meditate, pray, REST......most of all believe that my oncology team will do their best to help me get through this--acceptance is the key, but that is a goal of mine-i am not there yet-BUT I AM DETERMINED ...

It will be ok.
The unknown is scary but it will be ok.
Chemo can make blood cloth so moving is important and be aware of any new caught/ out of breath feeling.
For surgery, my mom surgeon did it in 2h30…. Are you getting a minimalist invasive surgery ?

Looks like minimalist invasive surgery.
Try to eat boosts and proteins drinks before. The operation is going to save your life and everything will be ok.
Ask for aiming a R0 surgery and a result of pathology analysis: PDL1 …. Or HER2
If you do immunotherapy after surgery those info are important

It means the surgeon removes all the tumor with clear margins (tissue around the tumor clear of cancer cells)
This is what we aim for ! Ask him after surgery.
Also they analyse the cancerous cells in pathology ask if you are PDL 1 + or something else.
If you are PDL1 + immunotherapy (if needed) is a good option to prevent recurrence - if needed.

My husband was diagnosed on November 1 and we’re terrified also. We got a second opinion but things feel like they’re moving too slow. We don’t know a Tx plan yet (thanks to holiday). Reading about it makes us at times hopeful, at times it feels like a death sentence. It seems to help to connect with others.

Hello Leslie
It’s not a dead sentence ! And you have to move away from that idea.
However for my mom it was important to move quickly !!!! Push the doctors ! You have to have a PET scan asap. That will set up the plan I believe. Start treatment asap !
Mom was diagnosed in February- started chemo/radio for a month and had the surgery in summer.
Scan is clear BUT recurrence is high / she has PDL1 + and on immunotherapy for a year.
It’s a journey but NOT a death sentence.
Ask for stage, cancer markers!!!, and find the best best surgeon if you are eligible for surgery.

R0 means the surgery took out the tumor and tissue around it (to make sure) - with no cancer cell … “Clear Margins”
When you will be done with surgery ask surgeon if you are R0 !
