Prednisone and cortisone shot
I have tarsal tunnel syndrome in one foot and would like to have some relief. My podiatrist wants me to get a cortisone shot. I am on 6 mg of prednisone now. Will getting the cortisone shot while on long term prednisone cause a problem?

Hi @loyal, I don't have any experience with cortisone shots while taking prednisone but hopefully other members with experience will join the discussion and share their experience with you. I did find the following information that talks about possible effects.
"Patients who take other corticosteroid medication such as prednisone pills or inhaled steroids should get fewer injections or lower doses if possible to minimize the above risks. All injections have a risk of infection. For this reason, it is important to keep the injection site clean."

Are you able to discuss your questions or concerns with your rheumatologist or pharmacist to see if they have concerns?
I would think your Rheumy could shed some light on this. You might try shooting your Rheumy a note and asking. Make sure and frame the question so she(he) understands why and where.
I have rotator cuff tears and osteoarthritis in my right shoulder. I’ve had 4 or 5 cortisone injections in my shoulder over the past 3 years, on varying levels of prednisone. I’ve had no I’ll effects - just extra relief for my painful/stiff thumbs (my only remaining PMR symptom). I’m on 7 mg prednisone at the moment - going for my shoulder injection Monday (to hopefully see me through the holidays).
I received a steroid shot for bronchitis while on 8mg for PMR. It got rid of ALL of my PMR pain for almost 2 weeks! It did not seem to impact the tapering process.
I was on methylprednisolone an had to get an injection in my foot for plantar faciatis - no issued. I have also had steroid injections in my spine and my knee while on methylprednisolone - no bad reaction.
