Post COVID: Anyone experiencing internal vibrations?
I have had long covid for over two years and a symptom began sporadically during the initial seven weeks that has worsened since a second covid experience. It began as a “flutter” in my chest upon waking, lasting 5 seconds or so. It is not painful just a new sensation I have never experienced. After getting covid again in February 2022, the internal vibrations have become full body and go on for forty seconds. It is always upon waking or falling asleep temporarily during meditation and waking again. Long Covid retired me from my profession and I am not under any stress. I had a recent cardiac incident (also due to long Covid) and wore a Holter monitor. I triggered it whilst having an IV incident: definitely not cardiac induced. Has anyone else experienced IV like this?

Your post is actually how I found this forum! I was googling internal vibrations + long Covid. Yes, I have them, thankfully infrequently. When they do happen, it’s extremely unsettling. They seem to flare up when the essential tremor in my left hand acts up. Could that mean the internal vibration is CNS related? My other symptoms are mainly neurocognitive and balance related. Parosmia, too. Ten months post infection.
My head tremor came on 3 month after my booster and I also never had Covid before my tremor/vibrations began. My whole jaw constantly vibrates and sometimes I have little head twitches.
When I had Covid 4 month after it started, the symptoms intensified. I then knew that it has to do with Covid or the vaccine. I also wonder if the vaccine caused a disregulation of my immune system causing my nervous system to go into hyper mode. I also started to have tingling in hands and feet after Covid.
How many month after your vaccine did your symptoms start? And was it after the first, second or booster shot?
As everyone is posting mostly a repeat of the synptons I’ll concentrate on things that helped me a lot and made my post covid internal vibrations and feeling of electrtricity through legs, torso and heart berable and 90% gone. This list was assembled through my personal trial and error.
What helped:
- A lot of magnesium, about 320 gr per day. Extremly important.
- holter test that confirmed my heart is fine which reduces uncertainty and anxiety and unexpected heart rate spikes. Understanding that this is not dangerous will be the key. Extremly important.
- avoid extreme heat and direct strong sun. Very important
- avoid overeating, reduce carbs and avoid rice in particular. Very important
- 30 mins of fast walking 4 times a week. Very important
- remove all stimulants like cafein, tein. This includes cocacola, coffe, black tea, infusions and above all energy drinks. Very important!
- Suppolement of cuenzime q10
- Suplplement of Glutathione Antioxidant with Vitamin C + Glycine Cysteine Glutamic Acid
- full body massage.
What made internal vibrations worse
- diazepan
- Valerian
- heat
- rice, carbs and eating too much
- stress
- hangover
What had no effect
- acupuncture
- melatonin (might have had even negative effect)
- extra sleep
For immidiate help drink two beers, no more, no less, but keep in mind that this is borrowed peace and a big no no with some medications and certainly not a permanent solution.

The CNS controls much of our neurological dysfunctions. Signals from the spine to the brain can become disrupted.

Welcome @lukam. Thank you for contributing to the conversation and sharing your experiences of what worked and did not work for you regarding vibrations and feelings of electricity.
Each person's experience can be unique to them and their overall health. Always seek direction from your clinicians regarding medications and proper treatments first and foremost.
I agree that exercise, healthy diet, hydration, stress-management, sleep hygiene, proper breathing techniques, meditation all aid in an overall holistic approach towards managing neurological symptoms. These tools have worked for me.
How wonderful that your symptoms are 90% gone. Good for you! How long did your process take to feel the benefits?
TLDR: Took lots of magnesium (4 pills a day) and was fine in 24h. Check my post above for steps what worked for me and what was irrelevant and what made it worse.
My symptom of internal vibrations started in march 2022, 3 month after covid (might have been my second covid though fully vaccinated). At first I did not take much attention to this bizarre bed movements and thought that my wife is moving around. This went on till august when I was 3 weeks already on enjoyable vacations, but due to extreme heats and having parents over that generated slightly elevated stress and lack of sleep and lots of alcohol, huge feasts and at that time I caught some virus (not covid, but later we were all coughing for over a month) which lead to an episode of full body electricity which triggered a panic attack as it felt as if something is wrong with my heart. ER and my personal doctor were as puzzled as me and said that it was non specific anxiety and gave me diazepam and lorazepam. This two prescription medicines did not help much and I had 3 agonising weeks due to anxiety and panic attacks. ECG was showing elevated hart rate and they did not help much with calming me down. After consulation with the doctor I went off lorezepam, but kept taking valerians, then I noticed that this valerians are making electricity worse so I stopped that and started walking. Still having occasional lighter and less frequent panic attacks, but electricity was going through my heart, felt pain in arm and like needle stabbing heart - all this seemed like anxiety, though I did not feel worried, sad or overthinking, but I was over observing myself and felt frustrated. Did many measurements with Apple watch ECG and blood pressure - enough that I was convinced that my heart was fine though elevated rate and that this must be some symptoms of anxiety which diverted my attention to covid. Got armed with information and started experimenting, tried acupuncture (waste of time, though some with anxiety for lack of dopamine report great success), tried breathing exercises, yoga ... all with limited success, in case of a crisis ice on the neck and submerging face in ice cold water helped, swimming in fresh pool also helped a great deal. Tried alcohol again - oh wow that worked wonders, but clearly was not a permanent solution. Then I finally got my holter test that fully confirmed my heart was fine, which removed or at least reduced my anxiety and all that was left were internal vibrations and electricity, now my palms no longer sweated I was rather excited for a new round just to test various stuff and once I started pumping in lots of magnesium (4 pills a day) vibrations and electricity got down to a minimum in 1 day and it keeps being off long enough that I can recommend it. So I highly recommend trying simple and safe magnesium pills. Now the only time I still feel something is after a short nap and I am optimistic that this will get resolved soon. I guess it is our immune system screwing up with nerves and unpleasant feeling triggering anxiety like symptoms (referring to the heart). I fully agree with you, make sure you go to a doctor of western medicine as this is the only qualified person to rule out serious conditions. But as it seems like we have gone through this in this thread without a solution I wanted to share what worked for me in hopes that somebody else can also have some much deserved peace. I am seeing a neurologist, one that I have been seeing for over a decade for migraines. He is not a long Covid expert, but has plenty of patients who are now afflicted with it.
He did encourage me to join a long Covid study at his affiliated hospital, but I am terrified reinfection. I do not want to go into medical settings where there is a chance of exposure. Especially now that nobody takes masking seriously. Even medical professionals.
I was discouraged by a family member from joining a study, he didn’t want me to think of myself as “sick.” I recently touched base with my GP for a third time to discuss my LC, and she hurried up the telehealth appointment by asking me, “Well, what do you want me to do about it?”
I feel pretty discouraged.
I know that my symptoms are not as severe as other long haulers. I don’t want to take somebody else’s study slot, somebody who is more deserving.
What I find most disturbing is impaired cognitive function. I have lost past pre-infection memories, I lose time, my brain doesn’t “record.” I struggle to pronounce words, to find words. I get lost in my own neighborhood. My sense of direction and grasp of geography is… all wrong. I cannot “unglue” certain words or concepts that have become jumbled in my brain.
I am concerned by my vertigo and dizziness. It comes and goes, but it’s sometimes so severe that I find myself on the floor with no memory of the fall. My left hand tremor comes and goes. Like the inner vibrations, it is not a constant symptom.
Anyhow, I’m glad I found this community. Maybe I will start to feel a little less alone.

Have you had a chance to watch the explanation from Dr. Sletten about central sensitization? I think you'd find it helpful.

I'd follow your gut regarding taking part in a study. Maybe just focus on you right now and making forward progress. When do you see your neurologist next?

I see my neurologist next Wednesday. I started a list of neurological symptoms for him.
Yesterday, I was extraordinarily dizzy for about six hours, I had to stay on the couch. I also had blurred vision in my right eye for a couple of hours. This has happened to several times before. I was afraid of falling again. But, it passed.
I’m going to continue to look at posts here, and try not to imagine the worst.
